I have a 7 yr gelding that was diagnosed with RAO earlier this year.  I have been doing a lot research but there are so many products out there it is over whelming.  I thought everyone on here would have things they tried and what work or not.  I currently have him on pasture, Elevate Vit E, ground flax and just started msm.

Has any one use the Equine Haler?  It is a small unit that just covers one nostril.

What have you found that has worked?  I am also going to have to haul him for along period of time and was wondering if there is anything I can give him that will help?  What do you use for shavings?

What type of feed, hay?

What type of supplements?

Has anyone used fish oil? or thoughts?

What do you use pre race?

Anything else?

Thank you in advance!!!!

THE COPD Formula $75 for 30 scoops-free shipping
grass hay that we raised worked on my horse so not good for offering advice there. Any grass hay we hauled in would make it worse.
I have heard straw can be better than shavings.

I had a trail horse with COPD and the only thing I found that helped her was steriods given when she was having bad flare ups.

I just bought a bunch of AIR POWER for my older mare with heaves, I have daily doses and pre race paste I'll let you know how it works, about $20 a month and all natural.

Keep them on low starch diet and orchard and alfalfa hay is best.

Cur-OST is the best I have found for my mare with heaves/copd. Before Cur-OST I was using steroids and bronchodilators, soaking her hay, only riding on her good days and she was on any supplement under the sun I could find that was suppose to help. She still had more bad days than good. Cur-OST gave me back a horse I never knew I had. She has tons of energy, breathing better than ever and we are able to compete without having to worry about how bad she is going to feel that day.

In the trailer I use pellet bedding or the large flake bedding so it doesn't fly around too much.

I still feed only the cleanest hay I can find for her and keep her in as dust free of an environment as I can.

I have used a few pre-race pastes. Rush worked pretty good for her for those arenas that have terrible ventilation but most days she doesn't need anything.

Thanks for the reply.  What Cur-Ost do you use?  I thought of using pellets  in the trailer but was concerned when they broke up they would get dusty.  Have you had a problem with that?

What steriods and bronchodilators did you use?  Did you use an inhaler?

Thanks!

Total support and Immune is what I use from Cur-OST. She has not needed any steroids or bronchodilators since starting Cur-OST. When i did use them I used inject able dex and would just squirt it into her mouth and I also did try Ventipulmin as a bronchodilator once but it made her act really odd so I stopped using that after just a short time, never tried an inhaler but did do a few sessions with a nebulizer and it didn't help her much. The pellets do break down but i only put a layer of them where they go so they are taken out and replaced quite often. All bedding is removed from the trailer when its not in use.

Did you happen to look into the supplement Aleira by Arenus?  It is some what similar and more cost effective.

I've tried everything in from steroids (you have no idea what it's like to find out your horse is allergic to steroids btw...) to hay steamer, to cubes... you name it. Equi-resp makes a huge difference, as well as hauling with no bedding (I haul with soft rides to accommodate) and never feeding in the trailer. However, what made the biggest difference, in fact I would go as far as to say life changing, is Cur-Ost. My mare is an ulcer horse and stuggles to hold weight so we started her on Cur-Ost Stomach, Plus, and Adapt & Calm. Now that things have slowed down around here and she is turned out we've decided to switch her to total and see if we can maintain her on that. Seriously I cannot stress how much of a difference this has made... this mare used to struggle to get thru even the simplest workout without coughing. Now she can complete her 1/4mile breeze works twice a week without so much as a snort. I literally never hear her cough.
