You usually have to send in a vet affadavit with your entries then at check in they will have a vet of their own do a check. I have seen where a horse was entered at a large well known futurity and owners vet verified age but the futurity vet did not agree and kicked them out. No refunds. |

Thanks for the input! I figured someone out there must have done it. Never thought about it being non-refundable though. Well I do know her age since I had her as a yearling. Luckily both me, my vet, and the dentist all agree on her age so I can't imagine another vet saying "no", but then again...who knows. Good to know it's an option at least. |

Would you be speaking of Ft Smith 1980? That horse was from our part of the country and could kick butt. Raced on the brush tracks and was a natural at barrels. My first time to run a horse at Ft Smith, I was looking so forward to our trip then our friends get DQ'ed. I was 13 at the time so I'm not sure on the age thing.
op, Yes, always the vet for the race. If you have a horse that you can't get the papers from the owners I would research the horse thru the breed association. Just to be on the safe side. Lots will not register their late summer babies around us. Many of the horses end up in Mexico racing or the valley. There's been a few that I would have loved to start on barrels. But, frankly...so many nice horses with papers and no hassel there. |

This was one in AZ back in the early 2000's but I figured it must have happened more than once. |

Totally agree with you...I didn't get her with the intentions of futurities but I have nothing else for 2018 at this point (decided to keep an extra 4 yr old for now so I'm maxed out). She does show some serious speed and brains so I was trying to see if it was even an option. Unfortunately, she was a sad rescue case with no history to go on so I have no idea where she even came from. Not my normal prospect situation but there was just something about her I figured I'd take a gamble with her, if nothing else give her a chance at a decent life.
If I do end up doing it I'll be sure to update everyone. |
