What has worked for you in the past?  I am conflicted:  If I don’t bute her,  the abscess may come out faster, if I do bute her then she will be more comfortable, may put weight back on the foot and cook that abscess out.

Thank you.

Don't bute for an abscess because it will not bust on it's own and it will take longer to heal up.

Are you using Ichthammol and wrapping it? I've never given bute, just soaked it or wrapped the foot.

No bute, the abcess needs to travel to relieve itself and the bute slows this process down.

I would get a bottle of product called " Lame away". Use their poultice or Spray and use that instead of bute. That way it will break faster and they get some pain relief as well.

Bute is an anti inflammatory-abscess is inflamed-in order for abscess to go away it needs to rupture-let the inflammation do it's job.  NO bute.

If you have any THE NutraWound and NitrOxide..Double dose. It will speed up the process along with PHT bell boots.

Put foot in a bucket of warm Epson salts for 30 minutes 1-2 times a day ...

Then mix Epson salts with Vaseline ... pack hoof .. cover with feminine
napkin and vet wrap in place ... or use ichthammol to pack hoof.
both work wonders!!

If you want to create more pus to make it burst sooner ... start a 5 day
program with 20cc of PenG and at the same time you will be helping to kill
the infection in the abscess and after it bursts ...

For relief .. give horse 8 crushed adult aspirins in their feed twice a day.
A squirt of waffle syrup will guarantee they eat it all.
The added stress with no pain meds will usually give you more problems
than you ever dreamed of ... especially when standing on 3 legs ..

To relieve the throbbing pain .. you have to get the abscess to burst ..............

I always think a lot of times horse owners are cruel ...
no pain meds??? If your foot or body was hurting you would be
lapping up the hydrocodone to get some relief ... lol
