| I commute 140 miles a day.
I currently have a Honda Civic that gets between 30 and 35 mpg.
She's little, she's killing my back (see chiro post), and I'm pretty well terrified of hitting a deer in her.
I need to balance good fuel mileage with something built better for a tall person (I'm 5'10 and all legs, I need something that sits you more like a truck) and preferably all wheel drive.
We have a 3/4 ton and a 1 ton dually, neither of which are preferable commuter vehicles but the 3/4 ton might have to do for a bit.
What mid range size suv's are tall folk finding comfortable to drive? |

Location: NC | My mom has a subaru forester that when i dont feel like taking the dually places I borrow. Im 5'11 and its not bad. Ive driven it 5+ hours and have been ok. Its pretty solid. The only thing i dont like and from what i can tell we got a defective one, is that the passenger side seat is lower then driver. But its not horrible |

Location: Some where I haven't left yet | I drive comfortably a Ford Fusion and Mitsubishi Eclipse. The Fusion is averaging in town 27.5 MPG and my Eclipse (if I don't hot rod the fab Fast Car) will average 25+
In either car I can move the seat back and I can't fully depress a pedal.
I prefer the Eclipse (it's a 2006 because it's wide, low stance and if the weather is nasty it handles AMAZING). The Fusion is a comfy ride and I like it quite abit but I love a sporty car.
Both cars have withstood a thumping from me, I don't worry about deer in either car.
I wouldn't touch a Subaru if you paid me. Not because they are not great cars.... long story. |

I drive a lot of miles for work. I drive a 2014 Chevy Impala. I'm 6'3" and have back issues. I have the leather heated seats which I use as therapy.
Even at my height I don't have to put the seat all the way back. Plenty of leg room. I have the V-6 so it doesn't get the milage of the 4 cylinder. We just drove it to Gatlinburgs and got 30 mpg. I do a lot of stopping for work so it doesn't get as good then. Still, 23-25 mpg in stop and go driving. |

I drive about 120 miles round trip to work and I drive an Impala also. I have an 07 police edition and it goes from using 6 cylinders to 3 to improve gas miles. I've had it about 4 years and put on 100000 miles. Other than routine maintenance I've just had to replace the break pads. I've never checked gas mileage but I can almost drive the 6 hours to Minneapolis and back on one tank. My step dad, who is 6'4" thought it was roomy enough to ride in. |

| Thanks for the suggestions!
In laws have a Subaru Forester, i don't find it particularly comfortable.
Most of my pain is worse when my hips sit lower than my knees so I'm guessing that low to the ground cars in general aren't going to work.
I'll look into impalas. The budget is pretty slim so I doubt I'll find a Lincoln we can afford, but a gal at work has one and does like it.
We'll see, I adjusted the seat some based on some article I read, sadly the Civic is a 2003 basic model so it only has 2 adjustments other than forward and back for the seat and seat back, and one of them is the headrest up and down. Going to give it a couple weeks and see how it goes.

| I have two corvettes I use for pleasure and backup vehicles ...
Both are wonderful to drive and get 26-31mpg rolling at 70-75mph ..
at that speed engines are barely turning 1800rpm ...
It's great to either lower the top or pop off the targa top and get a whole new look at the drive to and from work while letting the fresh air blow thru your hair ... lol
New place I am moving to lacks the garage space .. so I am selling one ..
pristine condition and excellent mechanical shape .. sad to think about
selling her... lol |

Location: Southern Indiana | Not an SUV but I have a VW Passat and my dad is over 6' and can even sit confortably in the back seat.
I test drove a Nissan Maxima platinum and I will say it had the most comfortable seats I've ever sat in. They have some kind of nassa seats or something. I just wish they weren't $40k!!! I would definitely look at their suvs! |

| I LOVVVVE my Chevy Tahoe, but that may not be good enough fuel economy for your needs. I know a couple of people that have the Honda CRV. Smaller SUV but great on gas and more room. |

| canchaserdelux - 2016-11-09 8:41 PM Love my Chevorlet Equinox.
I second an Equinox. I had a little car that had been my every day commuter for the last several years and upgraged to a new to me Equinox in the spring. I will never go back to owning a car again! I'm right at 6 foot tall and love being able to get in and out of the Equinox so much easier. It's nice to be able to get a few bags of feed or shavings with it too. I get 28-30 mpg, it is a 4 cyl but has enough power for me. And since we have our trucks, I didn't get an AWD as I'll just drive a truck if the roads are bad. |

Location: Kentucky | I'm 6'0" with a 37 inch inseam. I'm all leg. I drive 100 miles a day in my Ford Fiesta. Gets 40 miles per gallon. I have the Titanium package, so all the bells and whistles. I paid $22k for it, brand new 4 years ago, and I have logged 100k miles on it. I love it. I am perfectly comfortable in it, and so is my 6'4" husband.
If you want an SUV for sure, my husband daily drives a Ford Escape. We are on our second one (we gave our Escape with 358k miles to my inlaws, and they drive it every day). The thing is a beast in the snow, and can comfortably haul 4 people and shavings, feed, etc. |

As a tall person, I can tell you getting in and out of a Corvette is a nightmare. It's easier to just fall onto the ground and get up from there. Vettes are not daily driver friendly. |

| Try a GMC Acadia or a Terrain.
You can find them reasonably priced and they fit our tall family. The seats sit a bit higher like what you were looking for and .... used one's are not super pricey. My Dad has some mobility issues and is 6'5" and alllllll legs. He sat very comfortably in it for many hours a day road tripping from the west coast to KS.
Good Luck! |
