I have more horses now than I have room…  I need another paddock roughly 30x40 feet.  My usual fence builder is too busy with big jobs to do it, and I’m also looking for a more economical version.  I’m wondering how the electric fence corrals hold up?  I know there are some companies that sell wide electric tape kits, is that a lot better than regular tape (the one you get at Tractor Supply for example)?

I guess with the electric wire all that fighting across the fence will end, but I’m also concerned that the horse will not make use of the entire area because of fear of the fence….

Input please!!!

The tape is much safer as far as injuries go but needs to be replaced much more often. My horses have never feared the shock enough to not eat beside it.

I'm using it to make pens. Works great until someone rolls too close to the fence and gets hung.  No injuries, but they escaped.

My electric fence is more temporary use, but CrossCreek has a mare that has to be separated so is behind electric fencing and we have thought about doing the same with mine at her place cause both of our mares have BAD summer allergies and run out manes and tails.

I have had the electric tape for YEARS. Here in Kansas with the WIND, I twist it before hanging it and that helps a bit. My horses eat RIGHT next to it. I have a donkey now that will discover instantly when it is off and crawl through it but I have NEVER had a horse do that. You have to weed it around it to keep the grass off of it or it will arc.
