| After going through quite a few saddles on my guy I'm figuring out most of them have too much rock to the bars and end up popping up in the back.
Saddles I've tried:
Martin Crown C 8" gullet, popped up in back even with a shim and rolled really bad.
Marlene Mcrae Circle Y - too wide and rolled.
Jeff Smith, fit *okay* but still popped up in back, sold it as it didn't fit me.
Tami Semas Reg Fit, also popped up so I've been riding with a shim. It also rolls when I run barrels unless I have the cinch incredibly tight.
Tried an Allen Ranch as well which didn't work.
He's very straight backed but with a decent set of withers so thinking a flat bar of some sort would help a lot. Maybe treeless? Any suggestions?

| Crown c you can custom order a flat tree. This is what I use on my horses, I have a flat 11" and a flat 10".
Tod Sloan b3 is a flat tree
Most saddle companies do have a flat tree, psc, Caldwell, etc |

Location: bring on the heat, NV | I feel your pain my mare is built just like that. I've tried a teskey ranch saddle and a frank Vega all around. I want to try a Slone saddle. I really need something like a ranch cutter but may have to get a roping saddle similar to my husbands.

You might want to go to less of a pad. The saddle I have works great with my 5 star 1/4. The saddle fits my mare & the saddle maker said the better the saddle fit, the less thickness of a pad you need. |

I don't have the popping up issue though. I have a pozzi wide right now and it's the best that I've tried. I'd really like to get an x-wide. I've heard they have a flatter bar, but same gullet width. I also have a pro with a regular tree and it's about the same but has more shoulder flair. I tried a 7" gullet crown c and although it fit awesome, but a smidge tight. It still rolled.
I'd say the tami is too narrow. I thought her trees had no rock to the tree? I swear I read where she said that. |

You might want to go to less of a pad. The saddle I have works great with my 5 star 1/4. The saddle fits my mare & the saddle maker said the better the saddle fit, the less thickness of a pad you need.
I think that would make it worse honestly. It pops up even more when I set it on his back with a shim and no pad. It might be a 1/2" pad. It's pretty thin. |

It's so frustrating! I thought I read that somewhere too that there was no rock, but after seeing this I'm not so sure. Fits the other horse with a dip behind his shoulder beautifully. If it was too narrow wouldn't it sit up more and not be rocked forward so much? I'm about ready to haul to the NFR and say someone find me a saddle that fits...
My sister has a standard Pozzi and it rolls and leaves ruffled up patches. Plus he tried to buck me off when I tried it the first time so I'd say that's a sign lol |

Could you try a Coats or Marty Byrd? These are far and above the best we've found. We use a Saddleright pad, so it's relatively thin and still absorbs shock. |

A pozzi standard doesn't fit my mare bad other than it's just a bit too narrow which made it roll horribly.
Yes usually too narrow it would sit up, not fall down. But any poor fit can cause a saddle to pop up bad. I can't believe the Tami would be too wide! I would probably try a coats maybe? I've never tried one myself but have wanted to! |

Location: North Dakota | My mare is shaped very similar to your horse. I tried on several different makers and trees and the one I found that fits best is the Coats. I tried late model as well as newer ones in both Original and Lazy L. All seem to fit very well

Maybe it's too narrow, I don't know at this point! It leaves a nice sweat pattern with and without the shim, dry down his spine and no pressure points so I don't think it's too narrow. Just rolls and pops up.
I'll see if I can find someone with a Coats in my area. :) |

Here in Colorado, Toni Hardin is promoting them. Several of us have orders in but you are looking at a 6 month wait. However, I was fortunate to buy one at their booth in Vegas! |

What tree do they have in them? There's a lady in my area selling one with a timberline tree. Headed to vegas tomorrow and going to pick the brains of every saddle maker there.. :)
ETA: Stopped by their booth today and really like the look of the tree and feel of the saddle. Unfortunately don't have $3,800 to drop on a saddle right now. I'll be looking around for a used one :)

Update - Found a coats to try and just setting it on his back I knew it wouldn't work. This particular one was way too wide - it didn't rock as bad though. Didn't even try riding in it.
I did end up buying a Burns saddle at the NFR, Wendy was incredible to work with but both saddles I tried popped up and rolled. :( She offered to build me a custom one but I just don't have 6 months to wait on a saddle right now.
Back to a Jeff Smith that fits both me and him but it still rolls a bit and pops up. Not as bad as the others I've tried but it's still there for sure. Gonna look for a Tod Slone B3 tree..
Saddle fit is a PITA! |

$3800 is pretty high for a saddle, especially one that might not fit. At this point I would look at funding the right tree and have a custom built saddle around the best fitting tree. |
