Location: USA | How long does it normally take for stocked up legs to go away once the horse is turned back out, and when should I start to worry? Is there something else that could cause both back legs to swell to the hock? This is on a young colt that is normally turned out to pasture and was put in a stall for bad weather for about 26 hours. Been out on pasture for 3 days now and swelling hasn't gone down a lick. |

Location: Phoenix | That might worry me a bit. :/. But not sure what I would do besides cold hosing, little bute, and maybe a vet visit. You might dose with SLH Kidney cleanse--that helped my horse with stocking up really well. |

| I would run a bag of silver lining kidney flush through, make sure the horse has access to water.
I would also poultice, if the swelling doesn't stay out off to the vet I go. |

Silver Lining Kidney Flush. Make sure he is drinking enough water. I add a tbsp of sea salt in every feeding.

| Any hear or tenderness? If either I would head to the vet.
After 3 days I would still probably head to the vet if he's been out and about and moving. I had a gelding who would stock up overnight in a stall, but after a few hours of moving around was back to normal. I would be concerned about 3 days... |

Location: Under The Big Sky Of Texas | For a horse that gets stocked up standing in a stall it would be normal for the swelling to start going down as soon as you get them out and moving around, not normal after 3 days of being out moving around and still have swelling.
Is the swelling tight and have heat? I would be calling my vet about this..

Location: Where I am happiest | Yep, we had a young one that was chronic stocked up. Put her on the silver lining kidney cleanse and it went away and she hasnt stocked up since. |

| I had a horse that stocked up super bad, would go down with ice/hosing, then right back up. My vet figured it was an internal infection and antibiotics did the trick. Have NO idea how he got the infection. |

Location: Southeast Louisiana | After three days, yes I would be worried.
On a side note, I've noticed that one of mine stocks up pretty bad if he has to stay on deep shavings. If I have to keep him stalled, I just put a minimal layer of shavings and he doesn't stock up nearly as bad (not at all sometimes). |

On day 3, I came on here to ask y'all's opinion to make sure I wasn't wigging out for nothing. Morning of day 4 I called my other vet who is driving quite a ways to come see her. I'll keep y'all posted. Prayers are welcome =) |

| My horses back legs would stock up when he needed de-beaned, He is one of those that has to be de-beaned about every 3-4 months. Edited to add, I missed that your horse is a filly.

Glad to hear that your vet is coming out, its better to have your vet check her out befor you do any kind of supplements, its better to be safe then sorry.. Some times it can be a simply fix and sometimes it may not.. |

| I agree with checking in with a vet.
Usually I am able to reduce any swelling with 30 minutes of exercise. |

| Sending prayers.
We see our horses everyday and when something doesn't feel right there's no shame in calling in the vet, even if it is something that resolves itself. I'm glad you got one out when you did and I hope your filly is on the road to recovery.
Do you feel comfortable sharing what is going on? We don't have the worlds best horse vet in our area, so I love making mental notes about different aliments. It helps me decide if we call the local guy or load up and head for the clinic. |
