Hello all, I have been feeding formula 1 noni to my gelding and I absolutely love it. I have been feeding it with 2 cups of whole oats per day which I recently brought down to 1 cup, but my gelding gets a bit flighty and spooky on oats(too much sugar) so I had to remove it from his diet. He is on free form grass hay in a pasture at the moment, and I am so picky about grain because I don't want any access crap going into his system that he doesn't need (no offense to grain lovers!)

But I do worry about his vitamins/mineral intake as well as his proteins and carbohydrates. I am not a fan of excess sugar or molasses. I just want something to help give him a little more energy (preferably cool energy) that I can feed with his formula 1,keep him healthy and well balances and him not get stupid. I have owned him his whole life so I know the difference in his behavior.

I was looking at Blue Bonnet..

https://bluebonnetfeeds.com/natural-blend/

Does anyone have any recommendations?

I feed the bluebonnet natural blend performance. It does have oats and corn in it so if you're not happy feeding straight oats, you may not be happy with this feed. I absolutely love it, my horses don't have any sensitivity to higher NSC feeds or corn or soy so I feel it works well for my program. They only get about 3lbs a day. Funny this came up because I'm getting ready to start one horse on the noni. Bluebonnet makes a wonderful feed.

My trainer feeds Noni 1 with Roasted to Perfection feed. The feed smells so good, I almost want to eat it myself! LOL.

Hmm.. I wonder why??

I'm not going to defend Formula 1 Noni, it is my supplement of choice for many (and obvious) reasons.

I am considering the Natural Blend, I know it does have the oats in it but also he was on COB (Corns, oats and barley) before I moved out to Oklahoma and he did fine, so I am not sure if it is the dealer itself that I got it from. I also had issues with the Alfalfa cubes, which I got from the same dealer in which he used to get alfalfa grass mix before he moved and the one I got from the dealer makes him too hot. So I am looking for other alternatives. I much prefer natural feeds more than combined than anything else.

I looked up the Roasted feed.. 15.5% crude protein, looking more for the 12% range.

Thank you for your replies!

So you like it because his coat looks shinier? OK. I was just curious.

I have never fed Noni but know several people who seem to really like it. I am not sure about it but did start feeding it in a powder form in my herbal mix. I feed oats along with some other stuff but after talking to a very good vet and nutrition people learned that feeding oats after hay will help reduce the sugar load going into the hind gut. I have been doing it for several months now and my horses are doing very well. I don't care for Roasted to Perfection on an ingredient level just my preference to not have any soy and I don't think Milo is a great feed for horses. It is very high sugar content as well. I looked into BlueBonnet but I don't like soy, corn or wheat in my feeds.

Feeding oats after hay? Well what if the horse is on pasture and has free form hay? During the winter he has a round bale in his pasture, can eat whenever he likes, then during the spring/summer he is on straight pasture (bermuda grass). Then does it matter?

I don't understand... is morinda the same company as formula 1? And they got in trouble for making bogus claims about their noni juice?

They might be different companies. I don't know. My focus is on the claims by Noni, not the other goodies in a given mixture, which may or may not be legitimate.

Everybody has opinions, I really don't want to argue. Some people look down on supplements, such as I won't even look at purina and nutrena brands. Why? Because they have been linked to poor management and their feed has killed multiple horses and dogs. No thank you.

Now Noni? My horse looks amazing, he was well minded before but it sure gives him an extra edge when it comes to taking him places. He looks and acts healthier, he actually RUNS to me when I bring him his bucket of grain into the pasture.. which he has NEVER done in the 5 1/2 years I have owned him. You may not like it, but I know many people including myself who have seen a difference in their horses because of Formula 1. I can name some WPRA barrel racers that I know personally, and have witnessed it for myself, who love and wouldn't run their horses without it. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but I believe in what I see.

DashNDustem could you please PM more about what Noni does. I kind of get an idea from their web site, and my trainer is a dealer and she's budy, but I'd like to talk to someone with first hand experience with it. :) I'd like to know more about what it does for body condition, joints, and mental well being. I have two horses, one who could use a little joint support (because of her age, she's 15) and another that is young (2 y/o) that I just want to make sure she grows up nice and healthy. :) Anything that would give her a little more focus, too, wouldn't be bad either, LOL. She does good...for a 2 y/o, LOL.
