| When you are going to buy a horse, do you always purchase a PPE?
Assuming yes, what all do you ask to get xrayed?
I was thinking the knees, hocks, and stifles but not sure.
Horse I'm considering is a 3 year old, turning 4. Dead broke. I'm going to be working with him to getting him started on the barrel pattern to use while my mare is out for breeding next year.
Thanks!! |

| Front feet, spine, stifles and hocks for sure. Also neurological exam. I'd be interested also in a blood test with a basic drug panel, painkillers, sedatives.

Location: TX | I recently vetted a unbroke FG grandson, not broke but handled daily, very well cared for and gentle. I initially thought about not getting a vet check, however since I was paying what I considered quite a bit of money and decided to have my vet check him over. He was slightly off in the rear, so she recommended blocking and then we did X-rays, he has a large spur in his lower hock. This was one time I was glad I went with my intuition. |

Location: NW MT | besides the xrays, etc - I would require a 5 Panel negative across the board test/results. And if the bloodlines are one that are common for PSSM2, would have the muscle biopsy for that done also. |

| My opinion is also have front feet xrayed and examed, a very good friend of mine just had a routine pre purchase, no xrays since nothing looked sore, and now the horse was just diagnosed navicualar after only owning the mare 6mos :( |

Location: Central Texas | I x-ray feet, hocks, stifles, and back. This mare that i recently bought I also did knees because of an old scar. I wouldn't skip feet and back by any means. I also do an airway test to check for heaves/copd as well as what any normal vet should check like eyes, teeth, etc. |
