I have a horse with pretty severe arthritis and hocks are partially fused. Injections are no longer relieving the pain and so I am looking into other options. Between alcohol injections, drilling, and laser which procedure did you choose and why? Were there any side effects or complications? Did the horse come back sound? How long were you off the horse, how long until competing again? What was the cost? Any information would be appreciated! I am trying to read some studies on each procedure and get personal opinions and speak with a vetrinarian before making a decision. Thank you!

We have an old arthritic rope horse which our son uses. We had him injected and would give him bute or Previcox when used. This fall I started him on Cur Ost Total. He walks out a lot better and yesterday he was running and bucking in the pen like a colt. I am going to try the Cur Ost Pure EQ because it's is cheaper and may seem more targeted for his issues. I suggest contacting Nouvelle Research and ask them for an opinion. I have used their products on different horses and never disappointed.

I did laser cost 2500 a hock. The first horse was done 15 years ago, I was back to riding in 3 days, competing in a few weeks he went from the bottom of 1d to the top of 1d.

The second horse was done 10 years ago he had 3 months off of competing 1 month from riding. He was a 1d horse before, and one after, the only reason he got done is he quit cranking his first as well, he went back to his normal self.

The third horse was done 3 years ago, his hocks were so bad he couldn't even lope a pattern properly, vet said due to malnutrition as a baby, he is becoming a good barrel horse, but I sold him after the surgery.

My vet did the research and studies on laser, so he is the expert. He is now refusing to laser horses who have been injected with depo as over the years he has noticed these horses will not fuse surgically if they have received depo hock injections, so he says it is a waste of money.

I don't inject hocks, I go straight to laser as it is cost effective in the long run.
