| Anyone have any suggestions on heavy and long split reins? I was looking at Dennis Mooreland reins anyone have some? Worth the money? |

Location: LaBelle, Florida | Leather or paracord? I have a friend that makes the paracord split reins with poppers on them...does a really nice job on them.
This pictures shows the length...horse is only 14.2h tall, reins are 7ft

| Dennis Moreland XXX reins are great. I have a set & they are worth every penny. I ride in split reins daily and have tried several brands. XXX are my favorite. |

| I have a pair of Stacy Westfall split reins that I absolutely love! They're easy to change out because of the buckles on the end. I've had them for 5 or 6 years and I ride in them almost every day. Was riding a young horse in them one day and he got away from me and was dragging them around the arena, I almost had heart failure and was so glad he didn't step on them and break them.
We also have another set of nice, heavy split reins that we picked up at the NFR a couple of years ago, they don't get used as much but they are still great to ride in and very heavy. I can't remember for the life of me what booth we picked them up from, they had hundreds of pairs of them laid over a barrel. |

Location: lexington KY | Dutton is my favorite. I love their leather work and I use their barrel reins and their split reins. I have some that are light and some that are heavier. Had them for years and they are still so supple in my hands. |

Location: Oklahoma | There was a leather shop going out of business and I found 2 pairs of harness reins they use for pulling or wagon horses and I got the $1.00 a pair! Took them to another leather shop and had them put the right snaps on the end and cut in 1/2 so I got 4 pairs for less than 10.00 after I got fixed with the correct snaps! Love them! they are soft and heavy. I know they will last forever! My best find yet! |

Get the 5/8th inch reins .. 8 ft long ... use neatsfoot oil on them and they will
last forever ...
The DM reins are cut side by side so they will be as identical in thickness,
width and flexible as reins can ever be ...

Location: West Texas | Dennis's reins are very high quality, as are all of his tack. We use many of his products and recommend them.

Location: Southern Alabama | I got a very nice pair of weighted leather split reins from Jeffers Equine, believe it or not. They are super soft, supple and made of very good harness leather. No name brand on them. I've had them for a few years and wanted to get another pair... but, Jeffers no longer sells them. |

Ditto on this. I went to their black friday sale and got the same reins for $24.00.
5/8 x 8ft with the heavy ends. I should have bought 3 pair. They now have a catalog.

what size did you get? I'm having a hard time getting 1/2" or 5/8" as I've never owned a pair of split reins. I hate a real thin barrel rein, so I'm not sure what size split to get |

Unless you have very small hands, I would suggest the 5/8" (especially if you prefer a heavier round rein). |
