My gelding has been off for a month (no injury I just haven't ridden him) I lightly rode him yesterday and today there is some swelling in the inside of his front leg right above the ankle. It's spongy feeling and doesn't seem to bother him at all. What do you think would cause this? Deciding if I need to go to the vet or not.

Sounds like a wind puff. If there is nonheat I would sweat it. If there is heat then ice until heat is out then sweat

How old is he? Is it warm to the touch? Is he lame or pointing it?

How long has it been soft and spongy?? He very well could have just banged it, hit it with other foot playing etc.. It SHOULD resolve itself in 2-3 days at most. If it goes longer or gets worse I would call a vet maybe... If he is sound on it good! Cold water therapy is great.

If it is soft and above the right ankle, you might want to have a vet look at it.. especially if it is in his leg. There are a lot of tendons and ligaments right there, and even though he is not lame (had a mare once that fractured her ligament and never took a lame step), doesn't mean a whole lot. Ultrasounds are your friend!
