Elite Veteran Posts: 1008	I'm working on a wound over the top of pastern on back leg. Vet has me rotating hydrocortisone cream with a triple antibiotic- keeping it wrapped. It has taken down the proud flesh but not good enough yet. She has me rotating because she says otherwise it'll never heal with just the steroid. Any other suggestions? I don't want to spray granulex- this a yearling and she's already kind of a pain to handle. A friend suggested scarlet oil and someone else has suggested wound kote/wonder dust I believe.......said they were able to peel away the proud flesh after letting it sit on about three days.....not sure if she'd let me do that if it's painful. What's your experience? I'm going on almost two months of wrapping- would like to get this thing healed up and be done with it already!

Veteran Posts: 242	Underwoods!!!! Google it. it will keep proud flesh from growing. It is one of the best wound care products I have used. I had a friend that had an orphan colt. He would get into anything and everything. After seeing all the injuries and results I was sold. Ive had to use it a few times. Not expensive and easy to use. You wont be disappointed.

Extreme Veteran Posts: 585 Location: Texas	This seems to good to be true but it works. I use vinegar and black pepper. Don't wash it, just keep applying everyday. It makes a scab. Good luck

It will make the proud flesh worse.

A couple years ago my yearling (at the time) nearly cut off her leg, stitches wouldn't hold due to the placement so they had to treat it as an open wound and now you can barely see the scar. It was nothing short of AMAZING. Vetricyn and Wonder Dust are my go-to products now and they haven't failed me yet.

Do you find the proud flesh peeling off as was described to me by someone else? Or need to peel it off? I never really thought of it that way, but I guess it probably peels off with the wrap? (usually a maxi pad under vet wrap for me). I have a really thin-skinned mare who will give herself bedsores on her fetlocks. One got pretty gross and proud flesh-y, but after a few wraps like that, the skin is flat again.
