What saddles fit mutton withered horses? I currently have a Cactus Marlene that wants to roll so I'm thinking it's too narrow and that's why it's rolling.

My mare has mutton withers. I've tried every saddle it seems like.
Cactus Flex 7inch gullet FQHB
Cactus Flex 8inch gullet FQHB
Double J #10 tree 40* bars
Circle Y treeless
Coats wide fit
Triple Creek 7inch FQHB.
I was about to get a custom tree made for her but I tried a Martin Crown C 10inch gullet. It worked, still has some roll but not bad. My mare also has wide shooulders. It also helps to use a 1/2 pad, 5 Star makes a mutton withered pad.
I would suggest having her fitted and buying custom.

There are three 10" Gullet Martins sitting at Teskey's in Weatherford that've been there a long while. Those things look like they could fit baby elephants!!!       I sat in one the begining week of December that I loved. Now I guess I need to find a baby elephant to put it on so I can buy it LOL

I try saddles from them all the time. They have a 10 day love it or return it policy. Super easy to work with. Very laid back people.  Buy it, try it, love it, or send it back. In the meantime I need to move far away, I feel like I live at that store.

Sounds like a fun store that could be a danger to your wallet, lol. We have D&D here in Seguin nice store the tack use to be really awesome but its changed owners so many times and now its all about clothes. Used to go all the time but the atmosphere of the whole store makes you feel unwelcome if you come in dirty from riding and I have seem the younger employee's talking about customers, so now I do all my shopping on line, wont go in there any more. And their tack area has really gone down, mostly cheap crap..

If you are going with a crown c or fx3 you will have better luck with a flat tree. There are very few of these available used, and are a custom order.

Martin did have a demo program where they would ship you the saddle.

One thing to know about the crown c is they changed the seat in 2015, if you love how you sit in a older one, you cannot custom order one. If you like the 2015 seat you cannot buy an older model. I sent one back to Martin twice and finally got a saddle I could live with. They have awesome customer service.

What about a Caldwell or a PSC? I'm just starting to learn about them but they seem to have a variety of trees and everyone seems to love riding in them.

So the seats in the new Crown C's dont feel the same as the older c's? Why did they change them I wonder, I love my C but its the older model

I feel your pain. Happened to me a lot at David's in Weatherford. Heaven forbid you ask for a cinch that isn't $100 in that place. Plus the selection of tack there was pretty stinky... Same stuff from years earlier, just in a different color.

Teskey's has a tack side and a clothing side and by god if I was a $40 cinch they'll have them in four colors in every size LOL. Both the tack and clothing side are pretty laid back. I hardly ever venture to the clothing store. That may be a bit dangerous. I spend hours in there on the weekends looking at every new thing they have there. Very dangerous store. Half the inventory inside the store isn't even online I don't think. There's no way it could be. In fact I just looked for the Martins I saw in store and couldn't find them online. Best to call and ask someone for a picture than to look online. Most of the saddle guys will text you a picture of saddles if you ask.
It's my go to store.

What did you not like about the Circle Y Treeless on your mare?  I have just started riding my mare with one, she's very low withered and wide shouldered.  I just sold my Lazy L Coats that I loved because it didn't fit her.  Just interested to see your opinion.  I love the look of the Crown C's just not sure on the gullet for her.  Thanks for the input.

The cantle is lower, approx 1" lower, the stirrups are forward hung, and the pommel is more up and down. There is no longer that sweet spot for your hiney. This is what I noticed. My one mare kept blowing me out the back I was landing on the cantle and having to grab mane to stay on. My 2014 saddle I can stay with her, and I have the confidence to actually run her instead of loping.

I did get to use a friends Martin Sherri Cervi. It didn't seem to roll (maybe slightly) but seemed to fit down on him. I was going to ask to borrow it again to see for sure if it fits.

I had a BM treeless trail model. It wanted to roll on my other gelding that has more wither then the horse I'm trying to fit.

It was a standard fit, I didn't try a wide on her. I can't say anything about it other than it didn't fit. I didn't get a chance to ride in it.

Something for me to think about but then the shipping charges run up since I am in NJ.

Has anyone had luck with Ammermans? I absolutely love how they ride. Used to have one but sold it to buy the Cactus (to fit another horse).
