 Would anyone be interested in a 14yo granddaughter of his? She's an absolutely gorgeous buckskin, bought for the husband and he hasn't been on her in probably 3 years. No, she doesn't run barrels, she likes to stand still and look pretty! And she does it very well! She was originally trained/used for halter, showmanship, etc and walk is all my husband ever worked his way up to. :)
Since I am a big fan of Rugged Lark, I might. What do you have? I really do not need another horse!!!! |

Location: west of East Texas | Ha Ha. I just pulled her pedigree up. She's a GREATgrandaughter and a 2002 model so I missed the January 1 age change. 15.2, massive build, beautiful head, buckskin (golden variety, not buttermilk) with two hind socks and blaze. Scraggly, barely there mane and forelock (thank you horse show world) but has a massive black tail that will drag the ground if left alone. She was used for youth halter and showmanship and trained for Western Pleasure but not shown much. I got her as a 7yo when my then-new, non-horsey husband thought he needed a horse to hang out with me and my girls. His requirements were: buckskin (like Marshall Dillon), tall (he's 6'2 and felt like he was on a pony on anything smaller), temperment of 1 (did I mention he had never had a horse), and no head all up in his face (I don't know where he got that). When I went to test ride her, it was 28 degrees and a blowing snow storm in Clovis, New Mexico. Since she didn't try to buck me off with no lunging or groundwork - nothing - I figured she was pretty docile. After owning her, I realized she's just partial to conserving energy. She is perfect for my husband. Neither of them care to get in a hurry. He has never loped on purpose. He hasn't ridden her in 3-4 years but he could get on her today and she would just walk off. About twice a year we throw a grandkid on her for a little trail ride.
She is fast for a big girl though. She can outrun all of the barrel horses in the pasture on any given day when the dinner bell rings. She must be first! She is the guarder of the gate! OK, she's the alpha b***h. I play around on her when I don't have a horse and if you push on her, she has some moves, just doesn't care to use them. My daughter used her 2 or 3 times a year for the local horseshows after her show horse coliced and died and always won the halter and showmanship classes, usually Pleasure, and occassionally Horsemanship. No prep work before either. I've taken her through Poles and Barrels just to annoy her and it worked. (the annoying part). :) My husband thinks she's the best horse in the world. She's located halfway between Houston and Dallas.

Location: west of East Texas | I obviously don't take enough pictures..... This is the only I found quickly. I call this 'the camel pose'. Big girl can get low low low low for some belly scratches.... she'll literally keep sinking, stretching, and almost fall over as long as those scratches are coming. I'll have to try to find a 'pretty' picture of her....
