Regular Posts: 60	Anyone that has fed the regular red salt block and switched to different form of salt what did you switch to? Could you tell a difference in your horse?

Witty Enough Posts: 2954 Location: CTX	I went with the Himalayan salt blocks. They come on a rope, and are a bit harder. I found the regular blocks would get nasty (dirt kicked on them), or when put outside it would dissolve when it rained. Really didn't see a big difference in the horses, but I feel I get more for my $$.

Could you tell a difference in your horse? Just an FYI, salt blocks or mineral blocks are not designed for horses. Cows, yes, their tongues are rougher and are designed to lick tubs or blocks. Horses tongues are not and the result is they can NOT get enough of the mineral or salt that they need and their tongues will dry out and crack. I work for an equine dentist and we see cracked tongues and cut up tongues quite often. Just be careful. Loose and free minerals/salt is the ideal way to go

Elite Veteran Posts: 911 Location: Northern Ontario	My mare would always lick her salt when I woulf bring her in to feed so now just throw 1tbs of loose horse salt on her feed and she just licks it once in a while. I tried putting it loose in a bucket and she wouldnt really eat any and go back to her block insted
