| I just had a horse done today. Lameness exam, 2 blocks, full xrays, 2 injections and a shot of Bute $556. Also not all injection are created equal. There are various qualities/potency of HA. My vet uses Hiviscus which is the top shelf stuff. It's $130 per injection.

I doubt they put hyvisc in hocks. Thats usually only for high motion joints like stifles, fetlocks, coffin joints, etc. |

Yes he had right stifle and right hock injected. I should've clarified. My point was Injections aren't created equal and it shouldn't be that expensive. |

Location: Smack Dab in the Middle | I had 3 horses at Oklahoma State on Monday and my whole bill was barely more than that!
One horse had a full lameness exam including the lameness locator, 2 full blocks done, 3 view radiographs on one stifle and two view radiographs on his heel, and injected both stifles. $730 |

| I have noticed vets can range drastically in what they charge. Told a woman it was $12 for a fecal count at my vet. She was floored and said it costs $80 from hers. Couldn't believe it! |

| The last set of hock injections I had done cost me $322. That was with a brief lamesness, sedation and the injection and a 2 month supply of PentAussie.
The time before that was right at $700. That was with rads (4 views each hock), a full lameness exam, 2 shots of legend (1 then and 1 take home), and the injections. She was diagnosed with spurs in both hocks.
I have kept her on the Pentosan injection once a month and use my magnet hock boots religiously. He told me she would need to be injected every 3 months. Right now Im going on 5 months and she is pain free. Im hoping to make it longer before she needs injections again. |

| I understand that everyone has to make a living, but I think that SOME vets (not all), are getting out of control with their pricing! That's a ridiculous price for that procedure. |

Location: North Dakota -> Colorado | Seems excessive for just the 2 hocks. Up here 2 injections per hock seems to be fairly standard however there is one that will do both upper and both lower on each hock. but still in those cases my bill has never been much more than 500-600 (not including radiographs). At one time, I had a horse that I injected 2 places in both hocks, 2 places in knee, and one in fetlock, had radiographs (around 4 I believe) and total was like $1100-1200. So it averages out to around $120-140 per spot, and on average around $60/view. Seems to be fairly standard. However I wasn't expecting to be injecting that much that day and boy that was a shock
ETA: they still might have been overpriced by about $200 however, if additional stuff was done that needs to be taken into account
