Sugar, betadine and epsom salt. Make it into a paste and slather it on the foot. Wrap it up and change out every other day.

THIS...it'll suck an Elephant thru a keyhole, even without the Alum. I had no idea what that was so I mixed the other products and 12 hours later we had a sound pony with a very stinking hoof wrap! Sometimes I can't get the ichthamol to spread because of the cold and I have used Iodine instead.

I am trying this tonight if the one in my guy's foot still hasn't busted today. He had an air pocket back by the bulb of his heel last night, so it's gotta be close. I'm assuming it works even if they are coming out the cornett band? Do you slather the whole foot or just the area if you know where it's at?

Tide with Bleach Laundry Powder. A cup in a gallon or so of very warm water. Soak foot til water cools. I've always had success with this, though not overnight.

Could you please tell me how long to leave this poultice on and should the foot be treated with any thing after you take it off, like to harden it?

You can change every 24 hours. On an actual abscess, I've never seen it take longer than 48 hours to work.
I've never treated with anything afterwards. Once you get the gunk out and relieve the pressure, they are fine.

Be sure to check hoof for large hole and keep covered and clean till hoof grows over or you will be without a horse for a while.
