Location: SW New Mexico | Brother Dave recently had chiropractic done, hocks injected, and the vet put him on Platinum CJ..He has another week off before he starts back to work.
I'm having a hard time getting Dave to eat it....and Dave usually eats anything.
I give him rolled oats 2 cups 2 x daily...
I welcome ideas to get him to eat it better.

I was thinking of adding oil or wetting it down..
I also cut the amount in half until he gets used to the taste.

I'm wondering the same thing, we ran into their booth at the NFR and being my mom is a vet, she can order it easily. So I decided to try it. I love the joint support but almost wonder if injections of Legend every now and again are cheaper. I haven't sat down to go over the cost and pros and cons of each.
Also love that it's one supplement and I don't have to make a concoction of different supplements, but it's a little hard on the pocket book. |

Yep. Adding more "stuff" just compounds the problem. I have a very picky horse that wont eat anything new. I just added a small amount to start with and then worked her up to a full dose. It took me about 2 weeks to get her to a full dose but it sure has made a world of difference for her. |

| My picky eater would not eat it at first. It took a little while. I found he would eat it better if I measured out the feed and put Platinum on top and let it sit out all day. Like fixed his evening food in in the morning. |

My veterinarian explained it to me. Thats why she has me give it IV no longer than 12 hours before a run. Most people I know give it the morning of a run. My vet said If I was running multiple days to use it daily. |

That's interesting. Sounds like your vet is trying to get more money out of you. ;) I guess out of all the case studies and research I read, only one study done with six horses suggested it may not stay in their system longer than a few hours. The rest of them pretty much pointed to the fact that it had lasting effects.
But I suppose both Legend and Platinum are pretty much a shot in the dark on whether it'll work for your horse so you're gambling with either.

Yes, I would cut back on the amount until he gets used to the taste.
Start with 1/4 scoop. If he eats that, do it for a week or so.
Then go to 1/2 scoop. If he eats that, do it for a week or so.
Until you are up to the full amount you are going to give him.
My old horse Beau was a very picky eater. At the time, I was giving him Finish Line Ultra Fire, which is a VERY small scoop. I still had to sloooooowly introduce it into his feed to get him to adapt to the taste. And then he ate it fine.

Quite the opposite. My vet makes Zero dollars off of me with legend. She calls in a prescription to wherever pharmacy I want that has a sale or cheapest price. She could care less if I use it and where I get it from. I have confirmed this with several performance vets and have talked to many many people with the same understanding. Everyone has to do what's best for their horse. |

I started Platinum recently and my horse would take a bite and freak out because it stuck to his teeth really bad. I started buying Aloe Juice from Walmart it's $5 for a jug and it works perfect to wet the Platinum down and they like the Aloe taste. As a side effect it will help with ulcer prevention and make their skin and hair healthy and shiny! |
