I have actually taped myself and noticed a huge difference in my shin splints when I ran. It helped my SO with his SI Joint.

I did have my gelding worked on by a chiropractor, and then we taped him becasue of how I felt after being taped. I do think it helps, just like other therpy options out there.

I will tape my horses this weekend. I've been taped and felt the difference so it's their turn.

Not to steal the thread..but what is taping?

This is what she's referring to...

ETA: I've never taped a horse, but I've personally been taped for an injury and it helped significantly. So taping to support an injury I understand, but I don't understand the benefits of taping just for support? Is that why they're doing it? Or possible to prevent injury? Maybe someone can explain it.

My midwife taped me while I was pregnant. I kept having to go to the Chiro every other day to put my hip back in around 39-40 weeks. She taped me up for support and the weight of baby instantly transfered off my back and hips. Best thing ever as far as I am concerned. Stayed on through sticky Texas summer heat too.  I would use it for support on my ponies in a heart beat if I knew how to do it.
ETA Here is a link to the tape we used. Equine Tape is below that link.

Does anyone have any links/literature that they've used to tape their horse?

Let me start with this:

I AM TOTALLY UNEDUCATED IN TAPING!!!

But--my daughter has significant special needs and she was taped by a therapist when she was about 3 years old. I can KIND of understand the thought process wit humans, but horses have HAIR!!!! I can't comprehend how taping could possibly be beneficial on top of hair. If anything, I would think it would pull it and make them uncomfortable?!

That is all! :)

My thoughts too on the hair pulling, the strips have to be stretched for the taping to work and I would think the horses would have a problem with all the hair pulling. Ouch I would think, lol..

K-Tape - Best stuff ever. I used it on my shin splints and became a believer.

My SO was having hip issues. Would pop out, I would put it back in, and he would be good for a bit (not even a day) and then it would pop back out. He isn't a believer in other types of medicine and therapy, until now. I convinced him to let me tape him up. :) I watched the videos and taped the area after I put his hip back in. Hip stayed in place for over 3 days. Took the tape off, worked on him, and he tried without the tape. By that night, he asked me to put it back on. We kept the tape going for about 2 weeks (ish). He is now a believer in a lot of instances where tape may be an option.

My gelding's hip was worked on because of a hunter's bump, his SI joint was popping out of place, just like ours and my SO's did above. Chiro put him back in and we discussed taping him. I know it helped me and my SO, so I said do it. She taught me how to apply and I have here and there. It really seemed to help keep him level, and he was licking his lips and letting his head hang afterward, so I think there is something to it for them. I worried about pulling the hair but he didn't care.

I've used it on myself and noticed a big difference. I've had it done on my horses once and would certainly do it again. My chiro/body worker actually teaches classes/clinics on it; I think that would be very interesting to attend.

Edited to add his contact info (he travels all over the US): http://www.equinerehab.com/Home_Page.html
