I'm a single mom recently separated and discovered I'm unexpectedly expecting. Husband is the dad. I have a 3 and a 5 year old already. I'm starting to realize I might not be able to do jackpots and weekend races with 3 kids for a awhile. Does anyone keep barrel racing locally with 3 children? If so how do you balance it all? I also work full time.

I just want to say I admire your tenacity to keep all those balls rolling!! Multiple young children, full time single momma, full time job, AND horses? You are a busy lady. Tired too I bet!!! Hugs to you

I have two toddlers (2 & 3) and I have just now started going again since the birth of my first. It's a challenge, but thankfully I have my in-laws and husband to help me out. I am sure there is a way, however the stress of it all may not make it as fun as it once was for the time being. Prayers for you and your family!

Best thing to do would be to have a friend/teen/babysitter go wtih you and pay their way for the day (fees/lunch).  Then you all can separate you runs and both have ample time for the horses.

I was lucky and had my mom close by. She would watch the kids a couple hours 3 days a week and go with me to the local barrel races or keep the kids at her house when my husband had to work on the weekends.

What I try to do with my little ones turning 6 and 3, is when they days get longer I ride before work and they ever get up so I can get everything done. Sometimes I have to take them to the areana with me and the now turning 6 helps watch the younger one. She is starting to ride more so she will ride around with me then when she is done she helps baby sit the younger one. THe littles is content playing in the dirt with her trucks, trailers and sometimes she wants to ride so I will walk her around on one.

WHen I go to barrel races I generally try to haul were I know people, so if I need help watching them I can ask if they can help keep an eye on the kids well I run/warm up. The oldest is to the point where I am starting to trust her with the little one and have them sit in one spot well I ride then I come back and get them. So far this has worked good as they know not to wonder and stay put with their toys and such.

Now this is all going to change after I have the 3rd one as I know I am going to need help with the baby. But I think for the most part I can keep the riding before work going when they are all asleep. For the barrel races I am just going to try and make sure I can find a friend or barrel buddy that may be able to help keep an eye on the littlest well I run. We will cross that bridge when we get there, but its all about just trying to give in take some is what I have learend.. and I am sure as they get older it will get easier as I will have little helpers as they are both horse crazy and love to go to the barrels races and rodeos with me.
