Just made the swap from processed to not processed just trying to refine the edges now.
How many pounds of whole oats is everyone feeding?
i have a just turned 2 yr old, being sadded and worked now
& an 7 yr old open horse that is rode daily, (not hard work, check fences that kinda thing) and hauled to the rodeos on the weekends.

Currently, 2 yr old is on half pound AM, half pound PM of RG, half scoop (3 quart plastic scoop) of alfalfa cubes, half scoop of alfalfa pellets AM then again PM. not sure the weight because my scale tells me something different everytime with any kind of feed

Open horse is on, half pound AM, half pound PM of Renew Gold, 1 full 3 quart scoop alfalfa cubes soaked AM, then again PM. And a full 3 qt scoop of whole oats, AM then again PM.
both horses have free choice grass, then round bale of bermuda.

Just wondering if this is to much oats? should i feed more alfalfa and less oats?
They both look GREAT btw

Mine get 2 lbs twice a day.  Plus they get 7-10 lbs alfalfa mash with 1 cup flax.

I had my horse on a full scoop of whole oats twice a day. I'll weigh it on my kitchen scale tomorrow and let you know how many pounds it is roughly. It wasn't too much for him, but he's not a super easy keeper and he was being rode almost everyday.

Do you need to add the oats?  Just wondering as my horses are basically fed the same amount you are and I didn't need to add anything, one is 3 the open horse is 15 - all others not ridden 1lb per day. Maybe call Win

A lot of people now are adding oats for extra energy for their horses. I'm not sure if the OP is doing the oats for weight or for energy.
Either way I don't think you are feeding too many oats. But that's of course my completely unprofessional, uneducated opinion.

I feed one pound of oats once a day to mix my Cur-OST in.  It is just to be used as a medium for my product.  I rely on my forage for 90% of the nutrition for my horse.

this is OP...
im feeding them honestly for my own mind. I worry my horse will get hungry lol.
He has plently of energy and it plump!

i was just more or less wondering what everyone fed, wondering if it'd be more beneficial to cut back the oats and add more alfalfa.

Actually, the more whole oats you feed, the more lethargic your horse will become. I feed only whole oats with seabucks and I do not get hot horses from it, infact if I have a hrose seem "hot" I will add more oats to his deit.

My horses are the opposite - oats energize my horses. So, they only get oats if they are dropping weight when being ridden regularly.

Whole oats weigh 3 lbs per 3 qt scoop full ...

Crimped, steamed, rolled oats will weigh 2 lbs per 3 qt scoop full ...

Just put a scoopful into a Walmart bag and go weigh it at their
veggie department ... or checkout scales ...
