| I saw a bunch of them on display at a barrel race. My immediate thought was that the stirrups were hung too far back. I know several years ago that several years ago some friends had to send back some Alamo saddles because the stirrups were hung too far back. The Alamo saddles did not have the stirrups hung back as far as the Philips. I even went back to take a second look. |

They're just like every other barrel saddle out there. Manufactured by the same company that everyone else uses. No resell value. Hard to sell, harder to resell.
I'd spend my money on something more well known. It'll be the exact saddle with a different name and most likely a better tree. (Think NRS, Teskey, Corriente, etc.) Most manufactured saddles have a competitor series with low quality materials, a middle series with better quality leather and a saddle line that is usually endorsed by someone famous (Patrick Smith, Trevor Brazil, etc.) that are higher quality materials.
You get wha toyu pay for, but I would pay for something more well known and easier to get rid of if it doesn't fit. |

Location: Beggs, OK | I'm completely confused by a couple of the comments here. Robbie makes his saddles in his shop in Arkansas. I just bought one and the stirrups are definitely not hung too far back. I'm very long legged and struggle finding saddles that work for me...and this one absolutely does.
...I can't say that it sets your feet out front like your "Josey Paywindow" might, but I feel totally balanced in this saddle and my daughter has taken it over as her favorite to ride as well.

My friend had one made and it was absolutely awesome! And I love the original Cecil Phillips saddle made by the man himself. |

The ones I saw had the fender almost touching the back girth |

Location: OK | I have two Robbie Phillips, I had him make the fenders a bit shorter for me so I do not have the fender pulled up under the jockey. My daughters saddle is a 14.5 and mine is a 14. If you ride your stirrups short you might think of going up a size in the seat. I can ride both saddles equally well. I rode old style Ammermans for years and this is the first saddle that I have been happy with and I do like my feet forward. |

I don't own one but I have ridden in a few. I can say that after riding in my friend's saddles made by him, I would LOVE to own one! |

| Good saddles!! Robbie makes them himself. They are not mass produced. |

Location: Texas | I was just recommended by a friend to look into these saddles. I talked to Robbie on the phone and he seemed super knowledgable. I was wondering about them when I found this post. Seems to be mixed reviews, but interesting input. I |

| My sister bought one during the NFR this year. Robbie does not have his saddles "manufactured". He has a shop, now he might have an apprentice or two but they are hand made.
I was only able to sit in it and have not gotten to rider her's yet but I can tell you she rides this over her Martin Iron Horse. It fits a horse very nicely. The tree her's has has nice tall wells that are easy to get under and very nice seat pocket. She has not complained to me about the stirrups being too far back, if that was an issue, I would have heard all about it. |

I put more stock in the opinion of those who actually own them and have ridden them, rather than those who have "seen" them somewhere. |

My mare is pretty thick-backed with not a ton of wither so I'm struggling to find something to fit her. He talked to me about various trees he uses. He said if I could come to the next show he was at, he would fit her with a tree to know which one she needed and then would let me sit in some with that tree and then let me try it on her. That's pretty awesome in my book. I am currently riding in a treeless, but not loving it and want to go back to a treed saddle. It's hard to know which way to go. Especially when looking at having a saddle built for my mare, but not getting to try it myself. |

| I to have worked with him Awesome to deal with. We decided to wait until my mare filled out a little more before I had my final fitting. |

Location: Iowa | I just bought one and have another one ordered. Very high quality. He is very good to work with and super knowledgeable about fit.
I have a mare that is really hard to fit I have bought 2 pozzis (standard and wide) and 2 martins(crown c and fx3) for that continued to slide back. This saddle stays in place on her and actually fits!

Is your horse thick-backed or what is difficult to fit? |

Location: Oklahoma | I had one made a year ago and absolutely LOVE it! I wanted my legs down beside me and not stuck out in front and also wanted a flatter seat! I'd order another if I needed it! Fits many horses too! I waited quite a while to get it and that is because he makes them himself! No assembly line there! Thats how bad rumors spread and can ruin a business! |
