Is there any supplements that will prevent fading during summer? I have a new colt that is drop dead pretty liver chestnut with a flaxen mane and tail. Any way I can keep him looking like a million bucks? He is on platinum performance. Thanks !

Is there any way you could keep him out of the sun during the day? I've heard flax is good. Cheval International makes several different types of coat enhancers too.

Are you in a copper deficient area? I learned that often times horses' coats fade when they are needing copper. I was advised to use "blue stone" and add it to their water. Go to Penn Herbs and order a bag of blue stone copper and use one thumbnail crystal per 100 gallons of water and be sure to put it in with their water in a plastic water trough. It really works!!!! All your horses will have the darkest coats they can have :)

I used Cheval Internationals Black-as-Knight on my gelding several years back. I'm normally a skeptic on supplements, but after using it made me a firm believer in that stuff! he was outside 24/7 and never once faded. Wish I still had before/after pics

A friend used the palomino enhancer with great results as well

Agree. This stuff is awesome. Pricey, but awesome. I've heard you can use it on all different colors, but I've only ever known people to use it on a black horse.

What is the palomino enhancing supplement?

If you can look up Cheval International.com the website has all the information on each of their formulas. They even have one for sorrels/chestnuts and greys and white.

The active ingredient in the Black as Knight is paprika. Just buy some paprika and give them 2 tbsps a day. Note: it has capsaicin in it so if you show or are drug tested it shows up. For just regular ole stuff it is fine.

To add shine add some type of oil.

Cover with a vented fly blanket in summer and keep them out of sun as much as possible. Your horse will be dappled, shiny, and DARK.

I know that you use the Su-Per supplements, I wonder if they have anything. I have a brown gelding and the only thing that really helps is keep him out of the sun during the heat of the day, rinse them off after every ride to get the sweat/salt off of them and a good diet.

yep, I saw them! I Just emailed and asked for an ingredients list. Some formulas have it listed, others don't. The Black as night does, but the Palomino one doesn't lol ANd they are very " Anti" flax for some reason. Not that it matters but I really like to use flax.

I am going to just try the Paprika route for a few months and see how he maintains with that. Thanks!

I've never tried them personally... I've just heard good reviews. I'd have to probably buy them all lol! I've got a white, dun, palomino and a newly aquired darker flea bitten grey horse!
