My colt has been super thin and I was feeding him left and right to put on weight. He's getting at least two scoops of calm ultra by tribute, 9000 iu of vitamin E and dac bloom and alfalfa hay a day trying to put weight on him since January. I worked him this winter I can't remember what I used but about 3 weeks ago I wormed him again with quest plus and still not much difference in him a friend recommended equi-max I gave it to him Tuesday and he has gained weight over night I feel like! I can't see his ribs and I was so excited his hair was finally coming off and I was brushing on him and ITS ALL COMING OUT! He's bald and his tail hair is coming out to!!!!! His skin doesn't look flakey or irritated and he looks the healthiest he has yet. Why is his hair falling out?

I bought a beautiful new filly in November, a week before Christmas all her hair fell out.  She was bald. However no fungus.  The hair came out clean and there was no irritation on her skin.  Not sure what it was, but attribute it to better nutrition and her being very wormy.   Everything started growing back within a couple of weeks.  I fed her Healthy Coat Oil and Platinum Skin and Allergy.
Good luck.  This is a very disturbing. Below is a link to my thread from then.

I have seen that happen before when they shed out too quickly due to some drastic change.  Usually new hair has come in within 2-3 weeks.

I agree on the tail hair. Mine didn't do that - luckily. May be he is itchy due to worms?
I gave Quest Gel to my filly, but she still had worms after. I did a power pack and another round of Quest. That's what fixed it.

Possible selenium poisoning...that can cause hair loss. Hopefully that's not what it is...just throwing out an idea.

This happened to 3 of ours one year - was really strange to us. We think drastic weather changes along with working caused it.

The tail hair loss is different though. It might not hurt to give your vet a call and get their opinion on the situation, especially since the horse seems to have a bit of a compromised system already.
