my old mare of 25 received her rabies vaccination a couple months ago had a bad reaction of not being able to walk and swollen legs. Buted her she did better noticed changes in her she was stiff started her on Adiquin she is also getting arthritis joint supplement form T.H.E. We went on vacation for 3 weeks.. Got back and she is still terrible. Had a massage lady come out the other day to work on her she did improve a little but then she tried rolling and almost didn't get back up and when she did it was painful to see her try and walk it off.. This horse up until this year has not been stiff or took a lame step in her life. Is it our crazy weather warm and cold is it the rabies vaccination ??. Or did her age catch up with her fast....I've had her for 21 years and it's going to be hard putting her down... She's getting another massage this week but after not being able to get up the other day I don't want her to suffer... Thanks

My vet told me that horses will have built up as much immunity as they will ever have by the time they are 10 years old. After that I only vaccinate for tetanus and west Nile. As far as putting a horse down , I have been lucky that the horse usually tells me it's time.

I have no answers as usual, but wanted you to know I was sending prayers up for your old girl. My Dan is 38, and I dread the day when he tells me "Momma I'm tired and ready to go. . . " We've been so incredibly blessed with his health over the years. Hugs to you

No spring grass issues she's not on pasture. I just have the one shot because we have so many other critters around..

She just walks around a little no trotting don't think she can. I really don't want to make her butting her to see if it works. I just am praying she doesn't go down and not get back up.

I am so sorry you're going thru this. Can you get another vet to look at her?
