Anyone else watch this series on Netflix? I just watched all 13 episodes in a matter of a few days. Still processing it all. It was intense and dark at times.

I won't give away anything but will say it gets even darker as the episodes go on.

Hubby and I watched it all in a few nights as well. Very interesting. Although I hate high school drama type shows, this sucked us in.

I didn't like how they showed certain things because teachers could have used that show to help kids understand that what they say and do does have an effect on others.

We binge watched it at my house also. We liked it. I see the possibility for a second season in the works.

We had to sign a waiver, but my 14 year old watched it in school.  I started it, but am only at episode 2 or 3.  So far, I can't decide if I'm happy about them watching it in school or not.  Certainly gives a different perspective... Not enough hours in a day to binge watch. :(

I re-read the book and then tried to watch the show... I can't.
The book was very good. The show really didn't do it justice, IMO

I really liked it. There is a good message that will hopefully change the way people treat others. I saw on facebook where some people were bashing the producers for making it too graphic. I think it's important that nothing was sugar coated. That's life. It's very real.

Hubby and I watched all 13 episodes over our rainy weekend.

Very dark, intense, graphic.....but spot on.  I think everybody should watch it, but that's just my opinion.

One odd thing I liked about is how they did play to the sympathies of all the kids.  To show their innocence through youth and how their minds don't think the same as some adults.

I watched it and loved it. I'm not sure how I feel about a second season though.

NO!!

We are having a terrible problem with kids referencing the show and attempting suicides. It is terrible bc in their eyes it actually glorifies it bc of the attention the girl receives. We literally just had to have an assembly to talk about this show and that it was originally intended to show the "butterfly affect" and how even small actions affect everyone. Sadly, even after the talk the kids do not understand the concept. Middle school kids just can't deal with it.

In the book she actually isn't dead at the end apparently and it explains things much better but the Netflix version glorifies it and it is having negative affects.

Agree, they seem show the suicide as a success at getting revenge and in reality it is not.   I wish they had shown her getting/seeking out therapy other than just the counselor.

She's dead at the end of the book. It ends with Clay reaching out to someone else that appeared suicidal. The book also does not glorify suicide at all. It was released almost 10 years ago and I know a ton of people that read it and no one felt like they needed to kill themselves. If anything it made you more aware of being mean to someone or fueling rumors about someone.

I assume that everyone takes something different from it just like everyone has different beliefs on things. I took from it the idea that if kids are even thinking of suicide then this show may help others notice and maybe bring awareness to the fact that it can happen but we should do our best to try to prevent it.
