| As rodeo season fast approaches I'm kind of wondering what everyone's makeup routine is for barrel races/rodeos. I hate wearing makeup, especially when its hot out, so I wore nothing but mascara last year and I just felt so self conscious. I feel like everyone else's face looks bare yet perfect and my makeup always cakes which is why I don't like to wear any, but I also don't want to feel so self conscious  |

| I do not wear any powder makeup for the same reasons. My routine is a sheer tint BB or CC cream with SPF, a little cream blush on cheeks, a really good mascara and lip balm. Less is more. |

I dont wear makeup either because of our heat and humidity here in Texas, but I will keep watching this thread to see how others handle makeup.. I think theres some type of makeup that is used for the heat and sweat that out doorsy women use. |

Location: California | If you feel like you need to wear foundation, I would start with knowing your skin type. Normal, oily, dry, or combination. It really helps choose what kind of foundation is right for you. Next, how much coverage do you want? Or what are you "hiding"? I like a full coverage because I have redness and sun spots or just discoloration. For a rodeo I would definitely suggest something with SPF.
To help with cakiness, use a good primer designed for your skin type, cream or liquid foundation followed by a translucent powder. Being in rodeos, heat and such, a setting spray after you finish your makeup would also be a great idea.
I know it sounds like a TON, but it's really not so bad lol. You don't always need all of it, but if you're describing cakiness, then these things can help. Also NEVER put or touch up with a liquid foundation over powder. If you get oily skin, blot your oil away first and then touch up with a powder.

| I wear foundation if u am going to drive the tractor in the pasture mowing. I have always tried to take care of my skin plus I am very fair and I try to protect my skin from the sun. I wear Merle Norman LASTING MAKEUP. It has sun screen and will not sweat off. When you get to be 67 years old you will be glad to took care of your skin. Been there and still looking good.

| I usually wear whatever I've worn that day - so weekday rodeos I usually have a little foundation and eyeliner on from work. Weekends, just depends, if I have enough time to think about it before we leave I might put on the same. If we are busy before we load and leave I may wear nothing.
I guess I've always been a makeup minimalist. If it doesn't make me go faster it's usually farther down the priority list. |

Location: Washington State | Moisturize with a good face lotion, preferably one with some SPF. I use Aveeno with sunscreen. Let this dry then I use a matte foundation that's buildable so I can use as little or as much as I feel like I need that day, sometimes I just use spot treatments and other days I build it up under the dark circles under my eyes and blend out, dot it on my chin and forehead and also blend out. The foundation I have is Naked by Urban Decay, it's expensive but the bottle lasts me forever and the makeup stays on all day without getting cakey. When I wear more foundation I use a little bronzer under my cheekbones to keep me from not looking washed out. Chap stick, sometimes a white eyeshadow in the inner corners of my eyes (again to help with dark circles and looking tired) and waterproof mascara.
Following makeup artists and makeup companies on instagram has definitely helped with my makeup skills, they often have very helpful videos or links to YouTube videos. Of course they always wear way more makeup than I prefer, so I just tone down what they do a few notches lol. Makeup should enhance your natural beauty, not hide it! |

| I gave up on make up at rodeos in the summer, so it moisturizer with sunscreen for me, maybe some mascara. I found with my age, lines and wrinkles the age spots are easier to live with than a makeup routine that only seems to set those lines into cracked makeup. Never did have much tolerance for high maintenance anyways. Am jealous of the girls who always look so put together but I just don't have the time or patience (or skills) to do it for myself. So I pretty much a what you see is what you get kind of girl. My hair is the same way. It's long so I wash it and let it air dry, then braid it to keep it out of the way. I missed out on the girly girl gene and never was exposed to any of the skill sets. Now I CAN change my own tire, oil and possess other rudimentary mechanical skills courtesy of my father who took me under his wing as a second son when my brother moved out...am the last of 8 kids, 7 of which are girls. |

Location: Texas | Not that I am going much right now but when I did I either wore a full face of makeup or nothing at all...
I would feel self conscious when I didnt wear any makeup but gosh when we were hauling a lot the thought of putting on makeup for an AM slack was the worst LOL.
I start with primer and use Lancome liquid foundation and then will contour with a little bit of powdered bronzer/highlighter and then use a little blush. I have urban decay eye shadow but i will usually just do some nude colors there, I don't go crazy with smokey eyes or anything. eye liner + mascara and then either a matte nude lip color or chap stick.
99% of the time I don't wear makeup anywhere.. i am outside all day getting dirty and sweaty and covered in lord knows what but I also don't want to look 12 years old (which i do when i don't have any on) so I'm going to play around with a lesser amount.
I freckle a ton and I just feel weird if I do eye makeup and not foundation.. so I usually either do all or nothing. |

| In general, I always wear Rimmel BB Cream (I'm sure there's better quality with the more expensive brands, but I like this) and I like a little bit of this liquidy ELF pink highlighter I put on my cheeks. I usually just use Loreal voluminous mascara. Obviously it's nice to get more technical than that, but that's my basic makeup and I never seem to have many problems with it!! The BB Cream isn't cakey at all and looks very fresh in my opinion |

Location: Randolph, Utah | I was the same way forever. I had to wear foundation because I was self conscious about my skin. I started using Rodan & Fields unblemished and since added soothe. A good skin care regimen was a game changer for me. (FYI I do not sell R&F, I just really like the product) I'm down to using a tinted mouisturizer from MAC. MAC is the only makeup I found will stay on without looking too caked on. They also have a primer I really like that has SPF in it, then I use a powder to finish it.
They're usually really helpful at helping you pick what you need, just got to a MAC counter in the mall. |

Location: Phoenix | I would recommend the Smashbox 15 hour wear foundation. It's great for oily and dry skin. It's hydrating, has a Matte finish, looks like skin and really does last all day. It doesn't break down throughout the day either. I live in AZ and I'm outside sweating (a lot) and it holds up. |

Your skin sounds similar to mine, so here is my recommendation:
Primer: Always use a primer or two. I use Laura Gheller hydrating spackle all over and a pore filling primer like Benefit Porefessional in problem areas. Don't be afraid to use different types of primers in different areas if need be. There are tons of good ones out there.
Foundation: I've never found a foundation that doesn't dry down and make my skin look dry and powdery (even though I don't use powder...more on that later). Mary Kay CC Cream is the best face product I've found. It has light coverage and 1 pump rubbed in with my fingertips covers my whole face. It actually looks better as it wears and sinks into my skin.
Concealer: I struggle with creasing under my eyes with most concealers. Tarte Shapetape and Urban Decay Naked concealer were the best I'd found for my dry undereyes, but I just tried out Wet n Wild Photofocus concealer the other day and I like it even better so far! Plus it's only like $4. Using a damp beauty sponge in stifling motions is the BEST way to apply any concealer. Never rub it I'm. Make sure you set any concealer with a little bit of translucent powder IMMEDIATELY. To lock it in and prevent creasing.
Powders: The key with powder is how you use it. Only powder oily areas. Dry skin does not need powder. Use stippling motions to apply powder, never rub it in. Use a light hand and the smallest amount of powder possible. Get a good fluffy powder brush or use a damp beauty blender to apply powder. If you want to do bold makeup that will really last, look up "baking" on YouTube.
Blush/bronzer/highlighter: I haven't found a holy grail product. The key is, again, to be light handed with these products. Wet n wild is supposed to have amazing highlighters, but I have yet to try one since they never have them at my cvs.
Eyes: If you need eyeliner, Nyx liquid liner is THE BEST. The brush is tiny and easy to get a precise line and the liner will NOT smudge, fade, crease, etc.

AWESOME!! Definitely going to try that! I usually don't bake or contour due to time but I feel like I need a good BB creme and foundation in my life. I've just been using powder because I've been getting lazy but it cakes and creases so much. Plus it sweats off in no time! |

| I recently discovered a fairly new line of makeup called Maskcara. I love it so far. I hated wearing makeup because I felt like a clown with a bunch of junk on my face and I was just guessing on how I was supposed to use each product.
The Maskcara line is very light, easy and fast to apply. |

I forgot to mention if you do your brows at all, clear brow gel will change your life! I use the anastasia brow definer then lock it in place with the anastasia clear brow gel and it will not fade or budge!I also forgot to mention setting spray! I highly recommend using one. Also if you do want a bronzer, I'm really liking physician's formula butter bronzer. It smells like coconut (which i find disgusting) but today was my second time wearing it and it survived a trip to the barn better than my more expensive bronzers ever did. Sorry if I'm repeating info you already know. I just love to talk about makeup and most people aren't very well informed about it. |

| I hardly ever wear any foundation. If I do I use boots botanicals. It very light. Most importantly I just try to take good care of my skin. But I'm 35 now and heavy foundations just leave lines in the very spots I was trying to cover up lol. Now I am not caring so much about the lines. So I use boots botanical for sensitive skin. Exfoliating gently a couple times a week. For eye makeup I use Benefit. But I like a more natural fresh look so that line works well for that.
About that R+F skincare, there lash boost actually works really well for people that don't have thick lashes. The barn owner where I board uses it. She showed me her before and after. Major lash growth. Her brows looked like they filled out too lol.

Location: The best kept secret in TX | I have oily skin. Believe it or not your skin over produces oil to make up for lack of hydration. I lather on lotion before bed and right when I wake up in the mornings. It helps control oil all day long. Your skin is hydrated so it doesn't have to produce oil to hrdrate your skin. My dermatologist told me this secret.
I use a brush similar to the one pictured to apply my make up thinly and evenly. It is the only brush I have found that doesn't cake on the foundation. I do one pump for my whole face and blend well. I use a setting powder (translucent) and then use bronzer to even out my skin tone and match my neck since the translucent washes me out a bit.
If you get powder on your eye lashes and then apply mascara it makes them look extra long!
I use E.L.F. cosmetics from target or walmart. Very cheap. I have sensitive skin and have yet to have a breakout. Once my makeup is how I want it, I spray on a setting mist for all day hold.
