Can somebody please identify the main difference in these two products? Or if anyone has used both, what did you notice with each? They appear very similar as far as they're purpose and results, and I am have trouble deciding which would best fit my program. Thanks!

Levelor is basically a more expensive Mare Magic, hence the main ingredient is raspberry leaf. So, if you have a hormonal mare...I'd go that route. Otherwise, Calmex is more cost effective and will help take the edge off a horse for trailering, before a run, etc...

Yes, exactly what the poster above said. Levelor contains raspberry leaf (like Mare Magic) to minimize effects of hormonal changes. However it does also contain Taurine, Magnesium, and Dong Quai Root Powder which we know are great ingredients for promoting normal emotional balance.

The Calmex  is going to be your traditional calming ingredients.....Taurine, Tryptophan, Thiamine, Magnesium. . . . These are moreso for supporting the nervous system where as the Levelor is going to be moreso for supporting the hormonal behaviors.

Personally my favorite is the Calmex-V, (V for valerian root). I have tried all these products and I think they key ingredient to why the Calmex-V works so great for me is the Valerian root. This product also comes in a paste form for competition or other times of stress, too.

Not to steal the thread, but as far as the Calmex-V goes, is it something that should be fed daily as a supplement or can it be used only as a pre race paste?

I have a gelding, although SUPER talented, gets severe anxiety to the point that he can’t perform. We recently attended a three day race (Friday jackpot, sat and Sunday performance), and he did well Friday, made one of his fastest runs ever on Saturday, and fell apart on Sunday.

He’s not young. I acquired him as a 10 year old and he’s now 12. I started him on the pattern. He’s extremeley athletic, but tends to be fragile minded and easily rattled. When his brain works, he’s phenomenal. But when the anxiety kicks in, he can’t function.

Has been recently treated for ulcers. I’ve never tried a calming or pre race supplement with him, so don’t want to throw away money on anything that isn’t proven.

I have my 5 year old on the regular Calmex everyday, except winter when I don't do anyhting with her. I had her on the Calmex-V for a long time and tried the regular Calmex after being off one winter and felt like she did fine with it. But she's not on a full daily dose either and her mind if like shattered glass taped together, works well for her. She gets just 2/3 of the scoop once a day vs the suggested 1/2-3/4 twice a day. I'm super happy with it on a daily basis

I have a horse like yours. She is cool as a cucumber at home, works flawlessly - at races she gets such high anxiety it really keeps her in the 3D instead of 1D. She cannot handle music, commotion of horses around her, etc. The Calmex-V paste has helped her greatly and I don't go without it. I give it to her about 2 hours prior to competition. I have tried every gastric option out there for her first, before moving to a calming product.

I don't give her the daily feed through product because like I said above, she is so good at home. I have given it to my husbands gelding who is always on edge and the Calmex-V given daily really leveled him out.

Thanks for the responses and I apologize for stealing the thread. I had asked a similar question on Facebook and legitimately got 80 different suggestions; Via Calm, B Kool, Animal Element, Purina Outlast, Two Bulls De-stress, Jailbreak, CBD, Magnesium, Mare Magic, and the list goes on and on. I was also told I needed to trail ride... which I already do, don’t push him, which I don’t. Change disciplines, because he clearly hates it, and sell him, because he’s too dangerous. I’m going to really consider trying this, just have to convince the hubby... our current finances are pretty stressed right now, so it may have to wait. But in saying that, I likely won’t be hauling either. If and when I do, I’ll report back.

thank you again.

Just a suggestion but have either of you tried the Plantcea (sp?) product? I have not personally used it because I have no need for it but a friend of mine, whose horse was a complete spaz at races, is now a new animal. Not so much of a difference at home but wow is he laying down solid, consistant runs now at every show.

Several other friends have also had great success with this product! Just an idea if you havent thought about trying it yet :)
