| I'm looking at two prospects, same money, both with good conformation.
1. 2 year old by Judge Cash out of a Sunfrost daughter, not started
2. 4 year old by Famous Charmer out of a circuit finals qualifying mare, started but not on the pattern.
I understand people will prefer one stud to the other, etc. Looking for opinions on which is the better investment?

| Depends on what your goals are at this time. Do you want to wait 2-3 years to start going with a horse, or basically pattern and futurity next year? I don't necessarily think you'll go wrong on either. |

I get that. And if they were the same age it would be a no brainer for me. The goal is to sell them and make a profit. The 4 year old obviously can be patterned and sold sooner. But the 2 year old's sire is far more proven and in theory should go for more once on the pattern, but will also have a lot more time in it by then. |

Since the goal is resale, I would go for the 4yo. Your bills will rack up on the 2yo before it's time to sell. |

Location: NeverLand | Because you are looking to re sell, then the 4 year old no doubt! when trying to resell you looking to make money. So that would be my go to horse. |

I agree with others, if the goal is to sell, then the 4yo hands down. |

Hate to play devils advocate here but the four year old has already lost its futurity market---the two year old has a greater upside once riding. |

I disagree with this - there are a lot of 5yo futurities up north. She could sell this fall and someone would start running it in December. |

True, but that still limits your market---therefore the value. Again, just my opinion, sure doesn't mean I am right. LOL |

Idk that the 2 yr old's sire is more proven....yes, he's had one at the NFR, but honestly, the Famous Charmer's have done well in futurities and they are SO PRETTY!! Before I even looked at age, I looked at the two bloodlines and picked the Famous Charmer. I wanted one of those bad, but now that I've quit, I guess that I won't ever have the privilege to ride one. I do like them, though! It really depends also if you are going to try to market to futurity riders or people who run barrels but don't do futurities. Personally, I always found the little bit older horses sold better than the younger ones. Just my experience. |
