| We purchased an older featherlite trailer, and with wanting to hit bigger shows, I'd like to be able to lock the front storage area and windows. Of course, the dealership never had the keys for it, and we were informed we couldn't get keys for it.
Can a locksmith rekey the cylinders? Or will I have to look into redoing all the lock cyclinders? |

| Have you called Featherlite? There should be a # on the lock you can give them and have keys sent.
I did this with a Titan trailer I had. My understanding is there's a finite number of different keys for trailers, money says if you checked your #'s and wandered around at a large enough show you'd find another trailer with the same keys. In fact someone across from us lost their keys at the Bonus Race and they were hitting up other folks in the campground with Elite trailers looking for a key.
Edited to add if that doesn't work I would guess an RV place could change the lock sets for you

| I had bought my trailer without keys also. I just got a local lock smith to make keys for it. He charged $20.00
I had called the Sundowner place to see about replacements, and they said the only way they could get keys for it is if I brought it to them and they went through all their master keys to see which one fit |

I did the same thing. Bought a used Elite with no keys. Had a local locksmith make the keys and they work great. |

| I'm not sure how he did it... I just called him and told him my situation, and asked if he could make keys for it. So I dropped it off and a couple hours later picked it back up. My trailer has two different keys, one for the dead bolt, and the other for all the windows and door handle lock. Also, my ex was a repossession agent, he had keys made for the vehicles he picked up all the time. But I don't know how it's done exactly. I priced getting all new cylinders for my trailer after the Sundowner dealership told me I would have to bring it to them. Then I remembered all the keys the ex used to have made, so I called the locksmith. ALOT cheaper! |

Location: Oklahoma | redneck trailer supply sells replacement door locks. Most are made by bauer. You can also get them through a RV place. Or, look at the serial number under where the key goes and see if bauer will sell you replacement keys |

Location: Texas | I've heard there are only a small number of keys for all RV's and trailers. I think I'd take it to an RV dealership and see if they can find a key to work. |

Location: CTX | We had our lq door pop open sometimes while we were going down the road, and didn't have a key for it, so hubby got a new cylinder and exchanged the deadbolt on it. Took him maybe 10 minutes. if it is the regular lock that are also on mangers and windows and such I would go around a trailer dealer. I borrowed a trailer from a friend of mine last month and needed to lock her tack room door.... turned out it was the exact same key as my mangers/ windows.... just check the number on the lock and you might be able to find a spare for it. |

| Not sure about the window locks but I was told by the RV guy that all the "top" lock on (lq) trailer doors are the same but the "bottom" dead bolt is different for them. After I learned that I only lock the dead bolt. |

Location: Ohio girl moved to PA | There are only so many different kinds of keys made for RVs and trailers. example: 1-10. There will be a number on your key and the lock and you can just call a RV place and they will send you the correct key. When we bought our trailer used, they gave us the wrong keys and it just so happen my parents trailer keys matched ours and we traded keys untill we decided to just get a new lock since ours stuck sometimes. My parents went out to a RV salvage yard in IN and they picked us up a whole new lock for the door for $10. Plenty of options for you :) |

| My husband delivered travel trailers and he had a master key that fit everything. I would think a locksmith would be your best bet. Those locks can be replaced also. Would be pricey to replace all of then thoough |

Location: Way up North | So this thread prompted me to finally get keys for my trailer. I have a 98 Featherlite and I was lucky and have all the original paperwork from when the trailer was ordered from the factory by the previous owners and it had the key codes on that. Five minutes on Google and I got both keys ordered pretty cheap. I won't have them until next week so fingers crossed they work but I am excited to finally be able to lock it! |

This is so true. We bought a 1998 Hart and a 2005 Sundowner, purchased both trailers brand new from different dealers in different states and they both had locks that used the same key plus the keys looked identical. |

Location: in the ozone | this is what is scary to me - that so many are keyed the same. I still had a "universal" key from a trailer I bought new in 1973 that also fit my SO's new trailer he bought in 2002. My current trailer has a bauer lock but all anyone has to do is look up the numbers & they could buy any of them to get into someone's trailer if they wanted to raid them. I wish they were more "secure". |

I had a holiday trailer repair man give me a master to unlock any lq trailer door. |
