| Anyone have Ivory James horses as barrel horses?
A friend recently bought one and I wondered if there are any that have won much in the barrel pen?
The good, the bad and the ugly please.

I saw Pirate Ben is posted on BHW. Maybe you could call the owners and ask them for info on IJ...
I will gladly take your Ivory James off your hands! That is one bloodline I have on my top 5 list!
ETA: from all the sale ads I've looked at (SEVERAL LOL) they all seem to be quiet and good minde with serious speed.

Location: on the fine line between insanity and geniusness | My best friend just sold hers and I loved him. Very smart and kind, if he had a fault he was a little childish and immature. They wouldn't be my first pick as a futurity colt because they seem to be a little slow to grow up- BUT with that being said her gelding was a phenomenal mover with a head full of sense. |

Location: North Dakota | I would take another in a heartbeat. I held an arena record for awhile on an Ivory James son. Hard running and extremely ratey. Absolutely loved his style. Super smart and personable to be around as well. |

Location: Mississippi | I have a 6 yr old son of IJ - he is very sweet natured and easy going. I am letting him take his own pace for now on the pattern - when I tried to speed him up, his turns fell apart so I think he just needs to gain some confidence.
One thing is for sure, they definitely are blessed in the looks department. Every one that I have ever seen is stunning!

Location: OH | Has always been my favorite Corona Cartel son and at one time I was gonna breed one of my Sun Frost daughters to him and then started getting reports that they did not want to turn and backed away from the deal. Still wonder if I would have thrown Sun Frost into the mix if it may have changed that turn issue---guess I will never know. Granted---the reports I was getting may have been from a small sample, but it was a risk I wasn't willing to take. |

Interesting - mine doesn't necessarily not want to turn but he seems to want to more so run around the barrel versus using his back end when I try to speed him up. I have seen alot of people say they are slow to mature so I am hoping that's just the issue. I sure do love him though, he has the best disposition. I think you'd have had a good cross! |

You are probably right---I have questioned my decision ever since I made it. LOL |

| I own a 6 yr old and hands down the smartest, most athletic, easy going SOCIAL horse I've ever thrown a leg over and absolutely gorgeous. A gal that used to work as vet tech for facility IJ stands said my boy looks exactly like him only taller. Also said all of his characteristics are the same as IJ. I'm just now finishing him due to family/personal tragedy over last 2 yrs. He's ratey and wants to work.
I'd take another in a heartbeat! |

I've started 3 Ivory James daughters on barrels and none have had a turning issue? All were out of race bred mares too. I've also got a yearling I can't wait to ride and another mare bred back to him for next year. |
