May 1st my maiden mare foaled and presented me with a little sorrel colt. Upon checking him over, I noticed that both testicles were dropped, kinda in a odd manner but dropped. My vet arrived to do a check since my mare being a maiden and having some trouble needing a look over which I in turn asked him to check the colts "package" since it wasn't quite where it was supposed to be. He checked, said it was odd but not hurting anything. Let's wait and see. His two testicles line up in a row and one is in the sheath at the end of the sheath where his penis would extend out. About a week later, his penis made its way out of the sheath as it should. However, his testicles were still lined up like two cue ball still. It's been a month and a half. Neither have made any move to go to its rightful place. I googled and googled and googled. Nothing even remotely close came up no matter how I described it. I did notice a few mentions of testicle torsion. So, to be on the safe side, I call an equine specialist. I get the snickers. I'm sure there is an eye roll or two. I finally get the point across okay that his testicles are lined up like cue balls and the first one is all the way down his sheath at opening like a marble in the end of a tube sock. Okay he gets it now, I'm not a whacko. There is something to this. But he's never heard of something like this either. Well hell, neither has google. I explain he has no pain or palpable swelling although his testicles are a tiny bit large for his age. He says if it's not hurting anything, let's wait and see.
Has anyone else had this happen?

I would think that for whatever reason, one testicle did not descend through the inguinal canal like it should have to the scrotal sac.  I really would be concerned about it and would have a vet check him.  This might be a good question for Bear and since he is a doctor, he may be able to tell you whether it is something serious or not.

no sure how far you are from lexington ky but you might consult one of the large equine hospitals there.  rood and riddle might be able to provide you an idea of what to expect.

Yes, but the two who saw him have never seen it before and both have the same opinion: wait.
While you're waiting:
I would snap some pictures to explain your situation and send those pictures to Vets in the area asking for more information from them on this subject.
I would also edit the title of this thread to call Bear's attention to this particular thread. We have many Vets on the board as well.
Maybe something like: Bear and BB Veterinarian's Come Here!
Someone may know if you call their attention to your thread.

The first vet that saw him tried to gently manipulate the testicles some. He mentioned they were larger than he expected for his age. In years past I have had a couple of cryps. Other than that I have not seen anything like this. After work I will snap some pics.
After reading a few of the comments, I wondered if it could be some type of hernia situation that is causing this, inguinal or scrotal. Nothing I have come across appears to be similar in nature yet. Just a thought I had not considered. That is the beauty of BHW, someone will mention something that you had not thought of.

I'm assuming what you are describing are his testicles, and not something else. If that's the case, if you are planning on gelding him, it's probably not a big problem. I'm not sure I can explain what you describe, embryologically. If you are definitely palpating two testicles, then gelding should be easy, regardless.

Yes sir, it is two testicles. One is hanging pretty normal at back of sheath, other is laying lengthwise down in the sheath to almost the opening of the sheath. There is no swelling or fluid.

Well, it sounds odd. The important thing is he can easily be gelded when you decide it's time. I can't explain your findings of two testicles on the same side, aligned the way you describe it.
Interesting, but doesn't sound like a huge problem.

Some pictures would be nice. Testicular torsions are painful and would get worse in a short amount of time, not stay the same.

I recently had a colt gelded and both testicles were down but one never had descended to the proper place. The surgeon noted this and told me that one just did not make it to where it was supposed to go...

Not to hijack your topic, but watch for ticks in that particular area folks.   I just had a $200 vet bill because of the infection two ticks caused near the sheath.  I check for ticks.....just didn't check high enough.
