Location: Durango CO | There is not much we can do haha. I have a cpl injured horses in stalls with fans and fly gear. The others are turned out with as much fresh water as I can get them and fly gear. I feed them more than usual in the heat so they have somethign to do and make them drink more. If it gets really hot I try to spray them all with the hose. I will either ride early or after 8. Here in Colorado where I am I have been in 100+ degrees for 3 weeks now. |

| On super hot days here I give electolyte paste AND fresh cut COLD watermelon couple times a day. Horses love it and keeps the gut hydrated. |

 Am I really the Weirdo?

Location: Kansas | We've been lucky here in eastern Kansas and have had a breeze most of the time this month. My horses have actually chosen to stand out of the shade a lot because they catch a breeze in certain spots. At my parents' place, they have a barn they can stand in, and numerous shady spots in the pasture. They have automatic water and a pond in their pasture. At Matt's place - we were there from July 1-10 - they have a couple ponds and two water tubs in the pasture, plus about 20 acres of grass & trees to wander through. We sprayed them off almost every day and I put fly boots & masks on if the flies were really bad. Streak wore a fly sheet for a couple days because the bugs were eating him up and causing welts all over his body. |

Location: Deep South | It is so hot here that even just standing out in the pasture in the shade the horses are sweating.
So mine are in the barn under fans until dark. Plenty of fresh water. |

| Making sure the waters are topped off. Riding at night. My guys are on pasture with sheds. They spend most of the days in the trees. |

| Our heat index and humidity has been ridiculous. Mine are in runs. They can stand outside in the shade or come in and have fans. Plenty of water, grass hay and keeping runs/stalls clean as to not attract pesky flies. I have one mare with allergies/asthma; she gets nebulized 3-4x per week, the humidity bothers her. |

| I am feeding a supplement that is really helping my horse that sweats excessively every summer. They have shade, fresh water and I put hay in the run ins to encourage them to stay on the shade as long as possible. They get loose salt too. BioStar's Cool Star EQ has been a huge difference for him. I didn't ride him in the summer because he would sweat so much and was really grumpy. He was miserable. This year I am riding him and he is in a good mood while his sweating is now normal. I don't even have to feed it every day now. I feed it when there won't be any breeze and it gets over the mid 90's with high humidity. So right now I feed it probably 5/6 days but in August I will probably feed it every day. |

| The humidity on top of the heat is rediculous here in Louisiana. We ride early in the mornings or late in the evenings. Make sure they have plenty of water, get fly spray and mineral licks. To be honest I dont ride as much when its scortching like this.
What are some of your favorite stall fans/barn fans?

Location: Ohio girl moved to PA | Ive been putting a cup of water in feed and soaking hay to make sure they are getting water. I have one that is not the greatest drinker so he always worries me when its hot like this. I noticed he drinks more when i filter his water from the horse hydrator so ive been making sure he gets that. Also have been spraying their stalls down a bit with water and its actually been bringing the temp down a ton. while also being in front of their fans and getting hosed off. Its so humid up here ih Ohio so we havent really been riding much /: |

I keep an old Chicken house fan mounted in the roof of my barn. THe horses stand underneath it and it blows the flies off their backs.
Aquatred is a great alternative to working your horse out in the summer. 15min equals about 1 hour of trotting and loping your horse in the arena. It's quick, no one gets dehydrated, and it only takes 15min.
Also, I added salt bricks to their stalls, and electrolyes WITHOUT SUGAR in any form, to their water.

| I soak my feed and also the alfalfa cubes (not the Omnis cubes) and make sure I have enough water buckets with fresh water, hose down the barn as it also cuts down on the dust. But my mare is still a grouch. Not sure what I can do for her. Any suggestions? |

I like the Maxx Air fans...come in many sizes and are metal. They have a big yellow drum fan...it moves some serious air.
I try not to use box fans...too many fire stories with those plastic traps. |

| The horses are basically living like vampires. The only time they're turned out is at night. During the heat of the day, they're in the barn with fans. The flies get so bad in the pasture & the horses just end up running. The only time you can sneak in a ride is early morning. On a positive note, I sure have been getting a nice workout cleaning a dozen stalls every day! |

| I don't deal very well. XD
I will either ride early in the AM or late in the PM.
They have automatic water and shade.
Plus shoofly boots and fly masks if needed.
But again... I don't deal. I just wait for the weather to improve. |

Couple weeks ago we had 10 days of 110+...I know, I know, "its a dry heat", LOL!!! ARG!

Location: Arkansas | Fresh water every day, salt blocks of course, water in feed (around 6 am), and free to come and go in barn 24/7 (5 fans, which also helps with the flies). Sean's youngest horse gets in Chandler's fish ponds when he really wants to cool down! We're running around 105 heat index with usually at least 90% humidity, so not riding at all. . . .

Location: Wyoming | I'm doing just about all of that! Thanks for all your replies! I just hate riding him when him and the young ones are so miserable throughout the day and then I go make him work during the few times it is decent out. He is getting plenty of days off from riding these days |
