Location: Buffalo, Wyoming | If you were in the market for your childs first horse, lead line or something that they could learn to trot and lope on, could sit at the roping dummy and throw your rope all day long, take them to some playdays/jr rodeo's.... Horse needs a little maintance for a bad knee, probably shouldn't get out of a slow lope (but will run in the pasture), in his early 20's. Never puts a foot out of place, great mountain horse....
What would you pay?? I know this will probably be all over the board but kind of want to get an idea. |

| Danged near what ever is asked within reason. What is a child's safety worth??? I wouldn't run backwards at $2000 or more. True babysitter horses are worth their weight in gold. |

Location: Under The Big Sky Of Texas | A good baby sitter is worth their weight in gold so its really hard to put a price on one, so if I ever came across one for 1500 I would jump on it. |

Location: Buffalo, Wyoming | Thanks everyone! He is one we have but we do not have any kids... We loaned him to some little boys and they out grew him and we have him back now. He so needs a job other than getting fat and chasing the dogs out of the pen. |

I would totally keep him if I thought we would have kids in his lifetime but I don't think that will happen. |

Location: somewhere up north | Does he know the barrel pattern? My kids are 3 & 5 and I think it's near impossible to find something that will take care of them and teach them how to ride. They are either a lead line horse or running and a bit too much for young kids. |

| I paid $2500 + shipping and $850 + shipping for kids two ponies and they were 100% worth it. I would do it a 100 times over and people act like I'm nuts. My kids safety has no price :) I wouldn't blink a eye at paying the $1500 for a older kids horse |

Not down here, they go for around 5k and I would not hesitate to pay that. Those safe confidence builders are worth it. |

After my wreck, I had to have a "Debra proof" horse. I was blessed enough to be able to buy Dan almost 18 years ago for $1500----my daddy almost had a smooth heart attack; he said he could remember when he bought one of his horses plus a bridle and a saddle for $200. (I reminded him that had been back in the ice age. . . . ) The next year I bought my big boy for $3500; knowing what I know now, I would have paid way more for them---they were and are worth their weight in gold to me. Dan is 38 this year, and Faci is 22. I simply can't imagine not having them in my life. Oh, and I never ever will let Daddy know how much Faci cost |

The safe ones are so freaking hard to find and when you do come across one, more then likely they already have a home for life to carry around their kids children.. So yep they are worth their weight in gold.. |

Agreed! We paid $5,000 and $4,000 for our two daughters horses. Worth every penny. |

| we paid 2,000 for a pony that I knew would take care of my kid and teach her to ride. We have had her 6 years, she started out as our lead line pony.
I wouldn't back down having to pay 1,000-2,000 for a great kids horse to learn on.
Kids safety comes 1st.
