I see on Martin's website that they've gone back to traditional rigging and normal gullet widths with the BTR and Guardian. So now I have questions. Are they still built on the same shape tree the FX3 and Crown C are? Are they still supposed to sit back behind the shoulder? If not, how do they differ in fit from the other Martins?

I cannot answer your rigging question but I had never EVER sat on a Martin that did not feel like sitting astride a barrel. I won a BTR and figured I would have to sale it but It sets totally different than the other Martins the one draw back is that it is pretty heavy,  Check out the Robbie Phillips saddles, they are lighter and way less expensive.  I did keep my Martin though.

I've ridden in a crown C before and it was fine for me comfort wise. I'm pretty easy to please. My horse's back, on the other hand, is not.

I recently purchased a BTR for my hard to fit horse. She's racy built, but muscular. She has a decent wither, but a flat, broad back. The BTR fit the best out of about 12 (seriously) different saddles that I tried. I tried it on my other mare who has a lot of rock from front to back, and it didn't fit as well as the Coats I use on her, but wasn't all that bad. I don't believe it will be the same type of tree as the FX3 and Crown, as these don't have the giant 9-11" gullets.

I don't feel the saddle is heavy at all. Very comparable in weight to the Double J Pozzi I had. My Coats original is heavier than my BTR. When you're going slow, you'll feel that your feet feel pretty forward. But at the lope or during an actual run, I notice I sit very centered and its easy to sit in my turns. Overall, I really like it.

I am very interested in how the BTR fits as we have had crown cs and I love them the BTR I sat in felt like it would sit you better.
