My horse was diagnosed with a Grade 2 lesion on his deep digital flexor tendon 3 weeks ago. He was just lame for a day and all swelling was gone within 2 days. I had been hand walking him for 30 minutes every day and his legs had been tight and clean. He's on stall rest with standing wraps.
WELL on Monday during our walk, he pulled back and got loose. We stood for a second staring at each other with wide eyes, and then he took off. Dead run, bucking, farting.
I called my vet immediately and walked him some more to get his breathing to return to normal and cold hosed it, wrapped it with poultice and gave him bute.
Last night BOTH front legs were slightly swollen (so slightly my husband thinks I'm paranoid and they're fine - but they're definitely slightly swollen). He's a bit sore/stiff but I'm hoping its muscle soreness from running and bucking so hard after 3 weeks of stall rest.

Just a vent! Unless someone has experienced this and wants to share the outcome!

I have dealt with several tendon injuries now and at some point they have each have taken off, bucked, kicked, & farted lol In all honesty this is why I just let mine out in a small lot versus hand walking them. I know they would get crazy eyes and try to take off or worse...hurt me! They have always turned out fine and healed well. This past winter when mine was on stall rest his other back leg stocked up something aweful and at another point he somehow hurt his front foot and was dead lame. Im back to riding him now and tomorrow will hopefully be his last check up!

I am so glad to hear this!!! I'm hoping this hasn't ended his "Barrel racing career" (just local but we love to run!)
