Location: East Texas | I am going to be teaching HS ag classes this year, and I thought in one of my classes I would have a weekly segment called "stuff you need to know how to do". Stuff like: how to switch out a light fixture or install a ceiling fan, change a tire, rewire a trailer, cut and glue pvc pipe, run a washer/dryer, etc. I know you guys can come up with a ton of ideas for this. So let's hear them. |

ANd know what they are. What types of drill bits to use - concrete, wood, etc. What type of screws to use, wood, metal.
What type of tape to use, duct, electrical, the white kind for water pipes. How to hang a picture and the correct items to use. How to change a water faucet. Inside and out. How to turn off the well.
How to make chains and what kind of hooks for towing. How to hook and unhook trailers. Just walk around while you are at your farm. The things we all take for granted, a million people don't know how to do.

| One of the guys I work with has a son who has left for college, he had to GOOGLE how to use a dryer - I was SHOCKED! Parents are not helping their kids be self-sufficient by doing everything for them! |

| How to read a paycheck stubb, as in you work 35 and a half hours at $9.65 an hour. You work 43 hours in a week at $10.50 an hour. Gross pay, net pay. As long as humans make out paychecks, there will be errors! I know 4 TEACHERS that had mistakes for 12 months and never caught it. |

I can't tell you how many people I've encountered who don't know south from west; plus, Interstate Highways going north/south will be numbered in odd numbers while Interstate Highways going east/west will be even numbers. |

And they should write it down, including the date, especially when they're making calls to doctors' offices. This has saved me many times. |

Boom.
My mom taught me about balancing the checkbook and it stuck with me. But I never learned how to A RUALLY budget. I was just paying bills and doing whatever the hell with the remainder. WRONG! Every dollar needs a name. Otherwise you're just eating it! |

Location: Way up North | All these are really good but the emergency first aid for human and animals would be huge. Accidents happen all the time and a little education could go a long ways in saving a life or minimizing damage.
Teaching how to give shots and what size needles would be helpful too. I see a lot of people want to DIY their vet stuff but haven't the foggiest of what they are doing and end up with abcesses and a big mess.
How to apply for a loan for equipment, livestock, etc. How to calculate payoff, how much your dowpayment affects it, and how much interest will cost you over the life of the loan.

I am so amazed that when an accident happens (like for example a foreign object penetrating skin on animals or humans) people automatically want to pull the object out. What if that object is blocking a main vein and preventing animals or people from bleeding out? DON'T TOUCH IT! |
