Location: Pacific Northwest | Since most of Montana, Oregon and eastern WA are on fire I thought it would be good to check in with everyone? I'm in western WA and our skies have been filled with smoke all summer and now there's ash falling from the sky and we don't even have fires that close to us. I can't imagine how everyone that has had to evacuate must feel. |

| I am safe from actual fires but we have them all around us and have been in heavy smoke for well over a month. There has been ash falling for weeks on and off and air quality is mostly hazardous lately. This has become the normal here and pretty sad. I feel bad for the people actually effected by fires. We are in Western Montana.

Location: Peg-Leg Julia Grimm | I'm on the northwest side of Oregon. No fires too close here. But the sky is filled with smoke. The sun and moon are all but obliterated from sight. I don't have any respiratory issues but I'm sure it's been hard on those that do.

The sister of a family friend has been fighting fires since early to mid July near their place in Montana. It's been going on long before the hurricane was even first mentioned. I don't know why it hasn't been talked about this entire time. When I was out near the ND/MT line in early august the air was so thick I couldn't breathe, can't imagine those who live closer to the fired.
I'll just keep on praying for a miracle for those poor people.

I wonder how this will effect Pendleton? I have heard the air quality is bad. |

Location: North of the 49th Parallel | Fires have been burning in Canada since beginning of July. There is a fire up here that is 1.1 MILLION ACRES big. The air quality index in BC hasn't been "good" since June. It's gotten so bad that we can't go into the backcountry. At first it was no off road vehicles, like ATV's. Now, you can't step foot in the backcountry. It is so bad. |

I'm an hour east of Pendleton and the air is absolutely horrible. I haven't rode in two days, can't justify doing that to the horses. |

Location: Montana | I live in Central Montana, and we are safe from the fires themselves as well, but the ash and the smoke has been crazy. The other night the ash was dropping...I took a picture of the moon because it was red and you could see the ash particulars in the flash of my camera on my phone. Today we had Moderate air quality so I decided to ride some. We have frequently had Code Red air quality lately. It stinks horrible like smoke.
I was just reading a news account tonight that we have over 1,000,000 acres burned with over 922,000 acres burned from lightning fires. We are praying for rain. |

I woke up one day to ash all over my car. It looked like my car had been sitting on a shelf for 40 years and collected dust on it. The sun and moon here have also been red. It's crazy. We haven't had measurable rainfall in like 2 months. We are SUPPOSE to get rain tomorrow but I doubt it will be enough to do anything. We aren't even the place that needs rain the most either.
Most of the fires here have started for stupid reasons. Teenagers lighting off fireworks is what lit the gorge on fire.

Those pictures are unbelievable. Too bad we can't send some of that hurricane rain your way. . . |

| We live in NCW and are surrounded by fires. The air quality has gotten absolutely horrible recently and there's a 95,000+ acre fire in our county, along with at least three fires just to the south and one to the east, plus all the ones in BC to the north. My parents are in SW/SC Montana and have their fair share of fires as well. The smoke and air quality is so bad over there that my dad has developed pneumonia!
Everyone keeps saying it's going to be a rough winter, and with how dry everything is around here, I say the quicker the snow flies- the better!
It is like a tinderbox around here, we would gladly take some of the hurricane rain/flood waters if we could, and relieve you all in the south of that burden! |

Location: Pacific Northwest | So those pictures that I posted are from the Eagle Creek fire. It's been pretty much confirmed it was started by teenagers. A witnesses watched them throw a lit firework into a ravine and they were videoing and laughing. She told them "do you realize you just started a fire?" And the response was "well what do you want us to do about it?"
The comments I'm seeing on Facebook are appalling. People are defending them saying "they're just kids, don't tell me you never made a mistake as a kid." Ummm I made mistakes but starting a 33,000 acre fire that has taken a week to be 5% contained is not something anyone I know has done. |

And that is one of the answers of what is wrong with our society today. . . . |
