Had to put my best colt down from this years crop, to top it off he was out of my matriarch mare that is 22 so the clock is ticking on how many more I will get out of her. We were going to leave this boy a stud to start the next generation---just gonna have to take a step back, take a deep breath and regroup. Sucks though.

So sorry..... Non animal people do not understand what is invested in getting these babies here and grown to adults. Sorry for your loss and praying that you get another baby from your mare.

About a week and a half ago he was off on his right rear and we checked his temp and it was 104 so we called the vet. Ended up he had infection in his stifle so we drained and injected with antibiotics and proceeded daily. We weren't making any headway then he developed a cough and come to find he had pneumonia and it was feeding the stifle infection. We hit it with everything and anything and couldn't get in front of it and then yesterday his counts went skyrocketing and this morning it had spread to his hock.

Oh man I hated to hear this, poor baby, you did what you could for him but sometimes it was just not meant to be.. Next year will be a better year for you , is the mare already bred back?

Yeah---same cross. Which we had done that even before this happened. Still looking for another filly--I only have one filly from this cross.
