This mare is 10 yrs. old and fancy broke, been there and done everything horse, runs barrels and poles. Great bloodlines but about 5 yrs ago she started having problems not sweating during July & August so she has been managed on One AC every since. Several people have said they wouldn't buy so i just wanted to get a general consensus. Thoughts are appreciated. Thanks

yes my good mare doesnt sweat and one ac does work on her and if I found another just like her that had sweating issues I would buy in a heart beat! and she performs just fine we do everything off her from running barrels to tripping steers to being used on the ranch and when I say that I do not mean just following behind cows I mean roping and dragging yearlings and cows into the trailer or sorting in the pens etc! She gets used and is managed just fine with One AC. I should have added that we live in oklahoma and she is turned out in the pasture all day i do cold hose her over her back and hips and let it run off about 5 oclock everyday but she manages it well. She will knock you down if you have a beer in your hands though she loves any type of beer because she used to get a beer a day before I put her on the one ac

No, but I live in South Texas. We have 100+ temps and mornings with 100% humidity with low humidity of at least 50% in the afternoons and lows at night of 78+ degrees from July through September. Also, I don't have a barn or electricity for fans. At one time many years ago I had 2 like that and while we managed, I was constantly worried and would not leave our place in the afternoons in case I needed to hose down and scrape water off of them. I had fans and electricity to the barn at that time, so they were under fans.

If that were her only strike and the mare fit me great and was just what I was looking for I would.  I would expect the price to reflect her non sweating.   I have a non sweater, I live in the heat and humidity of south Texas. One AC and a dark beer keeps him sweating, he is under fans in an open concept cool barn from noon til the evening  during July and August.   Be sure you have the ability to keep her out of the heat  during the summer.

I would really have to think hard on it... I would probably pass unless she was something I absolutely couldn't live without. The climate I live in is really hard on non sweaters.

I have been offered two non sweaters {giving to me} and I passed on both, I live in South Texas and the heat and humidity is a killer here, these type of horses need to be in a cooler climate with out the humidity. I sure would not pay for one, if they were wanting to give you the mare and you like her then maybe chance it, but I sure would not buy a non sweater.

I think it is supposed to be MALT LIQUOR but that doesn't work on mine.

Thank ya'll for your thoughts. I have known this horse since she was 2 yrs. old and one of my close friends bought and trained her. She developed the sweating issue around 5 or 6 yrs old, she is 10 now and totally managed by One AC twice a day in her food. I bought her 3 years ago and have enjoyed riding and running her, but i also own 2 other nice mares and financially i can't afford to run 3 horses, so i have told a few people that i was going to sell her and they all responded with the "if she didn't have the sweating issue they would buy her". So i guess for now i'll be keeping her and just rotating which horse i run at a race. Thanks Again!
