boon Posts: 3	My horse is a nightmare to give a injection. She just started bleeding this summer and she is 10. Does anyone have any recommendations on alternatives to lasix? I've seen several posts on THE Pulmon-EZ. What has everyone else tried that worked or didnt work

Elite Veteran Posts: 889	I don't believe there is an alternative to lasix. There are other products/supplements that can be used with it, but nothing on the market that replaces what it does. Ventipulmin is a bronchiodialator which helps open up the lungs and makes it easier for them to breathe but doesn't necessarily combat bleeding.

I know there are a couple people on here that use it.

Saint Stacey	If your horse is a true bleeder, you really don’t want to mess around with giving something other than Lasix. Typically the horse still bleeds, but doesn’t expel so all the sudden you have a huge mess on your hands. I agree with talking to your vet about giving it orally.

I had one bleed that never expelled his and he ended up with a lung infection. We never knew he was even bleeding- he showed no typical signs. I would supplement with oxygen products, but there is nothing to replace the lasix. Kentucky red is also a shot. I never knew lasix could be given orally- I would look into that if I were you
