I had a nasty abscess drain out a back heel. It's done draining as of two days ago. I've never had a gravel or one blow out of soft tissue like this. Anyways there is a large hole I can stick my pinky into that goes down under the frog. I already cut away some of the dead tissue and a little frog but like I said it continues way under the healthy frog. So now what? Do I keep wrapping it until it closes? It's not really a lesion or open wound since it there is no scab. What are yout experiences with this type of abscess?

I'd soak it another day or so to make sure it's cleaned out and then wrap it to keep the crap out.

Agree also. Keep wrapping it and if you have one, stick a boot on him to keep it dry. I would squirt some saline in there when I change it also! Just something to keep it clean =] I had a nasty one last year, and I used saline, a drawing salve, infant diaper and a boot haha. Worked though!

I had one do this and he was real sore even after it blew.  I took him to the vet to have him clean out what he could and then turned him out on grass (cleaner than stall environment) for 2 months.  Came back good as new but it was frustrating as heck!
