Location: middle of nowhere | If you could live in any part of Texas where would it be? I'm looking at barrel races, things to do, weather, size of property, etc. Please be specific of area, such as Waco the Hubbard area or Stephenville Morgan Mills. Also what area should you stay away from? Thanks in advance |

| I lived in the Tyler area (East Texas) most of my life and enjoyed it. Nice weather but it does get humid. We recently moved to Granbury and we are loving it. The land is beautiful, weather is not as humid as Tyler and it is 30 minutes to Stephenville and 40 minutes to Ft. Worth. |

Location: In the Hills of Texas | We moved to Texas 20 years ago. Love the Northern part of Texas (Ft.Worth area) but didn't like the colder winters and traffic. East Texas was way too humid. West Texas is too dry and not enough barrel races but loved the wide open, lack of population. Don't care for anything south of San Antonio. We ended up 45 miles NW of San Antonio in the hill country. Dislikes...rocky ground. Found it to be the best weather to suit us. We wouldn't have moved here if we had needed jobs as you have to get into San Antonio for decent wages. The building has been out of control and it now sucks to get into San Antonio. It use to be a breeze. In reality...our country is getting over crowded. Sad.. |

Location: Texas | I actually live in Hubbard and it works for me. So many barrel races with in a 2 hour distance from me. I guess it just depends on what you do for work. The cost of living is good and if you want more excitement DFW is just an hour north. |

Location: on the fine line between insanity and geniusness | I live in southeast Texas. We are 50 minutes from Huntsville and about an hour from Bryan/college station. The summers are rough- humidity is horrible and the mosquitos are the size of Shetlands, BUT we have very mild winters and there are a decent amount of barrel races. I grew up in Carthage and loved it up there. Close to Marshall and Shreveport and only 30 miles south of I20. We are also pretty centrally located here. I can be in Houston in 2 hours, Dallas in a little over 2 and Galveston in a little less than 3. |

| Do not go to the Valley- anywhere south of Kingsville is to close to the border. Laredo is another area to steer clear of. |

| Brenham--the cows think it's heaven. I like the Hill Counrty. I live near Marshall and we have a barrel race in driving distance almost every night of the week around here.
Personally I would think the best option would be near where you can find work unless you are independently wealthy. |

Location: Texas! | I've lived in a east Texas and it was not my favorite for sure. North Texas is nice but we have settled in central Texas close to waco and love it here. Just bought a house and some acreage. Barrel races within an hour and a half most of the time. Waco has a lot of bigger shows. We also loved the areas around San Antonio. |

I just don't know what exact areas are better than others. I want something where there are a lot of barrel races, easy to meet people since I won't know anyone and am a pretty social person and consider the weather...I HATE the cold lol. |

Stephenville area, easy access to Waco, Glen Rose, Oklahoma - all have venues that hold big races. In addition you will be saturated with local races to attend in the surrounding areas. Winters are pretty mild, maybe a month of 20/30 degree weather, 50 most of the time. |

Do you have to fly out for work? What do you do?
I live in Bandera - great place, lots of races and easy access to San Antonio. However, I do some flying for work too and have a hard time getting anywhere from San Antonio. Hardly any direct flights. It takes me 12 hours door to door to get to either New York or San Francisco. That always seems excessive....

| Weatherford area is growing in population. I'd say southwest of Weatherford if you choose this area. Compare property tax of different counties/districts. Property tax is out of control in Weatherford.
Love Glen Rose area, and of course Morgan Mill, Stephenville, and Granbury.
Buy over ten acres so you can save on taxes with ag exemption. |

| I grew up in southeast Texas but moved to Terrell 2 months ago. LOVE the area. LOVE the weather. But the barrel racers here leave a lot to be desired. Ive been to a few local shows and have seen some of the snobbiest people. One race I went to, I said hey how are you to a lady. She turned her nose up and rode away. I said ok. Went to a race in Tyler 2 weekends ago and loved the people. IF my husband wasn't working in Plano, Id for sure be in that direction in a heartbeat. Avoid the Terrell/Kaufman/Canton area if you want friendly people. Just my opinion. |

Location: middle of nowhere | I like the Stephenville area because of things to do and amount of weekly barrel racing. However is the weather that bad in the winter? Lots of winds, tornadoes, etc?...would it be worth losing the easy access to stuff for better weather a little further south? |

At our ranch rodeo I met a nice woman from Wichita Falls who puts on a number of barrel races. Seems a lot of barrel races to go to all around that area.
I live out back of the beyond in the mountains of far SW Texas. I love it here - but barrel races are few and far between. |

| I live in Clay County, just east of Wichita Falls. There are quite a few barrel races to go to, but you might have to drive a little bit. We have three local associations, plus D&D Productions is headquartered in Henrietta, my home town. We don't have them every night, but we are only 2 to 3 hours from OKC, Ft Worth, Glen Rose, Stephenville, Abilene. Within about 60 to 70 miles are Vernon and Duncan, OK, which are smaller than Stephenville, but have top notch facilities, in my opinion. Most of us work for a living, and the barrel races are scheduled to reflect that. Some trainers, but they don't dominate like in other places.
Most important, we have a great group of barrel racers here. I grew in the southern part of the Panhandle, and have lived south of Fort Worth, and these are the best people, in my opinion. We are friendly, and try to be helpful, and most of us get along. Look me up at a barrel race if you decided to settle here.

I have spent 2 winters in Stephenville and I agree with this. I am from cold country Wyoming/Utah and down there is the coldest I have ever been. All my inlaws live in Stephenville and we moved back to Wyoming. The crime rate in Stephenville has gone up a lot since the first time I lived there in 2009 to the last time being 2016. We lived 15 miles out of town and had a long driveway and someone backed up our driveway in broad daylight and stole over $6,000 worth of stuff out of our shop.
