Location: Peg-Leg Julia Grimm | I think your best option is to take her to small claims court. But if she doesn't have the money to feed her horses, it will probably like trying to get blood out of a turnip to get any money from her. Maybe the courts can help. Any bills from your vet, pictures or written communications need to be saved to support your position in front of the judge. Good luck. People suck. |

| If this horse is as emaciated as you say, as well as others around, has anything been done to get him out of there?
Did your mare lose weight while there?

1. If a breeding/fertility soundness exam is more than the stud fee, then the fee must be pretty cheap. 2. Cheap fees are usually cheap for a reason and you should run from them. |

| I creeped on her fb and the rest of the horses seem to be in a good shape??
I would likely go to her place and discuss face to face. |

Yes, and I sold horses, and listed my trailer. Does that mean I should allow her to keep my money and stay quiet about the stud? This was back in the spring.
ETA- just to clarify: I am not breeding for more. I donβt want more. This was something I attempted back in the spring and I am now simply trying to resolve it since she as since just plain stopped talking to me about it.

| The picture you described sounds absolutely horrible. But after you saw the stud the first time...why did you bring your mare back for more? You said yourself that she also seemed hungry and you brought a bale and put it in a feeder the second time you brought her...that should tell you something. Not only about the stud's fertility and potential ability to impregnate a mare, but also the owner as a person.
Anyone who would A.) keep a horse in that condition and B.) try to stud it out in said condition C.) has no moral compass or compassion at all and would be remiss to care about giving you your money back.
Personally I wouldn't have tried it the second time and would have asked for the fees, and gone back with a representative from your Animal Services Dept or Sheriffs.

Location: Where the pavement ends and the West begins Utah | I understand your plight.Forget about getting your money back. If the horses are neglected, you will be too. small claims asks for a fee which is not refundable. You will only get further into debt. Small claims only send a letter for a time and court date, which she may be a no show. And you win but it still has to be collected. If there is a hardship, it will be thrown out of court. It's a great loss but no need th add to it. Just my 2 cents. |
