Do you need to go to a university or a large equine clinic to get good views of the neck and back or can a smaller facility with a portable x-ray machine get good quality x-rays?
?This is a well muscled, very fit 2 yr old colt.

I would go to a university. A and M is one of the best. You might try Dr Honnas or Dr Thoni. They both have really good X-ray machines

That has been my experience. My vet said the portable units for like legs etc do not penetrate far enough to get a clear view. I had to go to a larger vet hospital to get standing X-rays of back.
