| Liana, Molli, etc. In regards to the bucking horse that got choked out... I'm real curious what you guys think.
What are your expectations of a horse in the first 30-60 days? At what point do you as real trainers send a horse home? Do you actually tell the owners what you think of the horse, or what they want to hear? |

| This is why I don't train for the public anymore. 30-60 days training, from total scratch, some horses shouldn't even be ridden yet (in my opinion). I like a horse to be so educated that when I step into that stirrup they are pretty much already broke. Some can do it in a week, some months. So expectations are pointless because every horse is different. Maybe I am not a "real" trainer, but that's my thoughts. |

So you did train for the public at some point? |

100% correct! I trained for the public for 15 years. Quitting was one of the best decisions I ever made. There are colts that in 30 days went from untouched to riding out in open pastures behind cattle. And there are others that at 60 days where still in the roundpen. They're all individuals & need to be treated as such to do the best you can with them. I only sent a couple horses home in all the years I trained. One was a rearer, if she didn't get her way she'd try to flip herself. I told the owner she was dangerous....owner and his friends did everything though could to hurt my reputation for years. Another was sent home after she blew up, piled my husband and broke his arm. She belonged to an older tiny woman who wasn't a good rider, this mare would have killed her. There's a few others I wish I would have sent home but fought through them. |

Defense Attorney for The Horse
Location: Claremore, OK | As far as expectations, every horse is different. If heโs broncy it might take the first 30 days to just get him comfortable. If heโs willing and gentle heโll ride good in 60 days and very good at 90 days with some to a lot of refinement.
As far as what I tell a customer itโs exactly what I think. Iโve also told people that there horse might do better with someone else. The worst thing I can do is waste someoneโs money by not having their horse progress well.
ETA: this time frame applies to putting foundation on him before he goes to the pattern. Iโm not starting one on the pattern that doesnโt have good basic skills.

| My trainer tells you exactly what she thinks. What happened to the bucking horse? |

| Everyone trains differently.
30 days I expect the horse to know the basics, walk trot, lope stop and beginning of side pass, collection.
I have been spoiled as I have used 2 trainers and both go above and beyond.
60 days I should be able to put them on the pattern in another 30.
The first two weeks, it is my expectation the trainer tell me if they are canners or not.
Communication goes a long way.
I have trainers call me up in 2 days and say come get your horse it doesn't fit my program.
I have also had a trainer call after 1 day and say my horse was a canner as 2 hours after being saddled she was still bucking.
I have also had trainers suggest someone else who would be a better fit.
