| My heart aches for Sharin. What happened to Dreaming Of Foose is inexcusable. When seasoned rodeo horses have problems handling the ground...obviously something is drastically wrong. Foose ended up breaking her pelvis. She bled out on the way to the vet and died on the trailer. AQHA should be ashamed and the show management held accountable for allowing this to happen. Barrel horses canβt stand up on a shallow, dry clay hardpan. |

| I also heard from others that one horse rolled head over heels and that there were tons of slips and almost falls. I feel so bad for Sharin on the loss of that mare.
This is inexcusable, but when the organization caters to peanut pushers, there probably won't be anything done about it. |

| Until barrel racers stand up for themselves, nothing is going to change as to ground conditions. I know this will require the girls to just pack up and go home and will entail losing money, but those top horses are too hard to replace, IMO. It may require boycotting an association, or a petition like for the NFR. Associations may decide to just let the barrel racers go rather than make the ground safe for the horses, but I'd be ok with that. I am not talking perfect ground, I am talking safe ground, ground that MOST horses can be safe running in, not just the ones that take care of themselves or on the other end, horses that depend on the ground to hold them. Just my opinion, though.
Wanted to add I am very sorry Sharin and Foose had this happen. My heart goes out to her.

| What a tragedy...many prayers for her and all the connections. So sad when these things happen to our babies, our star athletes. It's amazing how big and powerful they are, but yet so fragile. |

Fluffy on top with a hardpan on the bottom from what I hear. No grip.
I ran in a pen like it years ago. My seasoned rodeo horse run up the fence and refused to turn on it. |

This was not so much the arena has it was AQHA not working the ground properly for the barrel racers. This is the same arena where BBR Worlds, BFA Worlds, and many other very large races are held. The ground is good for theses races because it is worked properly. |

This is the same arena where BBR Worlds, BFA Worlds, and many other very large races are held. The ground is good for theses races because it is worked properly. I agree with this. We've been there quite a few times. It does depend on how the ground is worked. However, it also depends on what type/kind of ground they bring in as well. At the Worlds it could be the type of ground to appease a lot of different disciplines. I could see it being more fluffy and you could easily get to the hard pan much more so than a really straight barrel race. Now, I can also see a way to work the ground to an extent to get it better for barrel racers or any speed event. The AQHA Congress fought the ground conditions for years for barrels, but they have made big strides in getting the ground pretty darn good for all speed events.
I hope that that all made sense. I just feel so sorry that Sharin and all parties involved had to go through this. It is just very sad.
