I've been seeing this on the pro girls pics and I noticed now I think it's Tiany rides with no b/c?? Any reasoning behind this? Is it to give them a better stride or is this a myth? And what about all the Mohair ones I think 5 star makes, what's behind these now? I'm old fashioned I guess and love tooled leather..just thought I"d ask on here!

I love my mohair collar because it's stretchy and soft on my gelding who really throws his saddles back. It's what he needs.

I really like not running a breast collar and if my saddle fits my horse well enough, I don't use it. The less tack, the better.

Would you rather run in battle gear or shorts, running shoes, and tshirt?

I don't use a breast collar with certain horses and how the saddle fits them. I feel that on some horses, the breast collar can be limiting in their shoulder movements and stride, but that's just a personal preference. There was a thread recently about tripping collars, and I've noticed some barrel racers are using them instead of a regular breast collar.

I remember in high school, a lot of the girls were putting those fox tails under their horses' cinches, I never understood the reason at a high school rodeo. I think a lot of it is trends and personal preference.

Never cared for a breastcollar, if your saddle fits right no need for a collar and the only time I did use a breastcollar is when I needed a tiedown on my horse so I could use the keeper on the collar to run my tiedown threw.. But have no horses that need a tiedown now adays so no collars.

Just wanted to add, I like a pulling collar way more then just a breastcollar, the pulling collars is all I like useing when I did need one.

I like using a breastcollar for barrel racing runs (added safety feature, I suppose if something were to break on my saddle) but I always use a wither strap to make sure it’s sitting high enough to not restrict shoulder movement.

For regular riding and conditioning, I do not use a breastcollar.

I feel a breastcollar is ultimately personal preference.

T is all about the weight. Brazilian saddle so it's lighter. No big blingy headstalls. She's smart and gives zero cares about looks it's all about time. If she runs a tie down it'll be looped through a hay string. #practical

Most ppl think it let's the horse move more free without hindering their shoulder though, same for the mohiar.... it'll give.

I run my little Fred horse with no breast collar. He doesn't use a tiedown, the treeless saddle fits him well, and if that pound saves us a tenth, I'm all for it! He is TINY.....14 hands with shoes on.....and I try to shave every pound off of him that I can.
My other 3 bigger horses all wear a breast collar, partly because they run with bonnets or a tiedown and I want those looped through the breast collar ring.

Look at a lot of pictures. Breast collars are many times riding up and very restrictive. If you ride with a loose one to avoid this you may as well not ride with one.

I run without one sometimes, I have a tammy Fischer treeless that fits perfect, and if anything my mare can get front endy sometimes so I don’t want anything β€œpulling” my saddle any more forward. I do however wear my trophy breast collar I won a lot because I am proud to show it off, but I don’t always wear one.

I had to take my breast collar off of my Firewater Flit bred gelding because he is too wide and stocky so he out grew all of mine laying around the barn. So I just took it off and haven't noticed any difference in the placement of my saddle. I was nervous the first run without it but I was totally fine. It seems like he actually strides out better now than when it did fit him. I ride my Bully Bullion/DTF mare with out one too. She's a lot less stocky.

When I worked at a reining barn we rarely used them, so I think it's just a personal preference and a lot barrel racers use it more for aesthetics. Yes, some saddles need it but I don't think a lot of people truly need them or know how to use them correctly? If that makes sense. If I use one, I always use it with a wither strap.

I think the no breast collar thing is a personal preference thing, kind of like the tie down debate. I use one bc I like the looks and just in case something were to happen with a saddle sliding I don't want my saddle to slide off the back. Just a little extra stability in case. As for the mohair thing I think it's just a hot trend right now. I've been using one for over 10 years, fell in love with the look of it when I'd go vacation with my family at a friend's ranch in Colorado. They've always had the rope breast collars since we started going in the early 90s at least, I'm sure they had them long before that. I just like the look and they're never stiff and don't really require much cleaning. I just spray mine off with the hose once a year and hang it to dry, then it's good to go.

I have a horse that doesn't like anything stiff on her chest. For a long time, I rode her without a breastcollar but then put a mohair on her and it's softer. In fact, both of my saddles now have mohair breastcollars.

If I were running against competition like the girls at the NFR where every tenth of a second matters, I'd be throwing as much crap off of my horse as possible. I might even shave their mane, tail and eyelashes off...jk, jk, jk.....But, it's like, oh what was that movie, where the bomber plane had to take off from the deck of a ship? Was it Pearl Harbor, maybe? Alec Baldwin, Ben Affleck movie. They pulled everything they could off that plane, used broom sticks to pretend that they where the side guns. That's what I would do. I'd even cut my hair very short. Every milligram of weight matters lol. At least, that's what I would tell myself and it might help sike me up. Breast collar.....meh lol.

"And, here comes current world champion, Jennifer LaCombe, riding Stingray. It was very nice of Sherry Cervi to let Jennifer borrow Stingray this year. She had a bit of bad luck last night....plowed over all three barrels. Let's see if she changes anything up tonight. Ahhhh, yes, she took the breast collar off, shaved Stingray, chopped off her mane....Jennifer is sporting a new pixie hair style and, OHHHH MYYYYYY.....Jennifer does not appear to be wearing her clothes.......aughhhhhhh.....Jim did you get the time of that run? Heck no, Bob, I was covering my eyes! Seemed pretty fast. Shoot, she deserves it for all that effort! Let's just call it a 13:10!"

......AND THE CROWD GOES WILD!!!!!!!

It could happen lol.

I said BORROWED lol.....but seriously, if world champion, Jennifer, borrowed a horse...I'd go for Slider first. I'd love a turn on Louie. He just doesn't mess up. Put me on Martha....I would try lol. This year, that little, Sister, she looks like a little bad ass lol. I'd like to see her up close. I like the breeding on LoLo, so I would love to take a turn there. I don't know if Kimmie Walls is the bad ass or if her and her horse are, but flames follow their smoking runs.......to be so fearless and focused. My respect. Kathy Grimes, bred her horses, took the time .... didn't go buy one trained.... respect. Ivy Conrado, I love Tibbie and Ivys riding style. Who names their horse Tibbie Stinson lol. There must be a story here. Stevi Hillman and Truck, they would not have to ask me twice if I wanted to take a spin on Truck LOL. Kellie Colliers, LoLo, has my attention. Love that breeding that's a nice horse.

So basically Jennifer World Champion just wants to borrow every horse at the NFR this year? And ride bald and naked on a naked horse? Girl you are The World Champion, no doubt

Seriously, it's great to see you back on here posting again. . . .
