Since ulcers are talked about on here quite often, I thought I'd share a website that has information about a new study that shows treatment with a polysaccharide blend. If someone else has already talked about this and I missed it, sorry!!

Read the excerpt on their webpage, found the sample size very small only 10 horses, but definitely a good place to start

Thanks for this update! This would be awesome news for the equine industry. Its terrible so many horses have ulcers, yet very few can afford to treat them. Does anyone know when gastrogards patent expires? I hoping there will be a price drop once there are more competitors.

A lot of vets can compound omeprazole into a paste for you, or can direct you to somewhere who can. I get mine compounded and it's $20 a tube, 2 doses in a tube. For a 30 day treatment it's $300 vs the $900 for gastrogard. I haven't needed any for over a year, but you can often find somewhere to do it for a cheaper price than the gastrogard.

I meant to put on here that I didn't go to the website--I was tired and read "just one more page" in the Quarter Horse News last night when I saw this!

I have my horses on it now. I did a treatment of strong EPM meds that just jacked one of the horses. He was bright and eating well was working pretty good too. He went off feed the day after I completed the meds. I had them overnight the relign to me. I got him back on feed using amafirm-Vitalize within hours of him not wanting to eat. I will give an update in a month.
